call me a naive xenophobe, but i know that Bluehouse skis are made in China. As are a lot of other planks (Liberty, Line, K2, some Volks, DP, Scotty Bob, and some others).
I have this unsubstantiated visage of just a giant factory that cranks out all the skis made in china, just tossing various topsheets on them.
obviously this isn't the case as folks talk heaps about the craftmanship of DPs and your shop guy was impressed with the craftsmanship of the BH.
So, are there multiple factories in China, say each ski company has their own plant?
I'm always curious about that as you hear that some skis made in Eastern Europe are made at certain plants (Atomic, Blizzard, Elan, Fischer, etc). I'm wondering if this is the same in China.
Also, if some of these companies are using small Chinese outfits, then why aren't they just having the skis made in USA? (again, I know that companies like PM Gear are outsourcing to Switzerland so that they can meet demand for their skis, but they didn't opt for China or elsewhere).
Not a slag or anything, just a thought that occurred to me after several German beers and too much pinball on a Sunday afternoon.
glad the shop guy wasn't trying to sell you a bronze elephant in Cleveland!
