I skied Alta for 5 years a longtime ago, 1975 - 80, driving there from UNLV where I taught at the time. It was the beginning of my off-piste ski adventure and I went to a really cool area and have forgotten the names. When you guys site areas at Alta, I would like to be able to have a grip on where you are referring to. I remember Rustler Ridge (?) going along it and a bit skiers left to get the lines, but the area I'm thinking of escapes my porous memory cells. It's above Germania Chair. You get off the chair and hike up toward a peak (Eagle's Nest up there also?). I guess you're hiking generally north and heading to ski north and east. You cross a ridge and face somewhat east toward what for Alta it is a whole different look, no trees, no rocks, just steep wide open roll-overs on and on. Put a freakin' smile on my face I tell ya, and it those days I had to ski the bottomless there on ST Comps, better keep your speed up and don't even look to the side, eh?. You had to take a long flat rope tow to get back to civilization. So where was I? what do you call it now? the lifts may have changed, so if you are an oldtimer there, think 1975. thanks. just want to be plugged into the Alta-Snowbird stuff in the threads.
