How are points totaled for list rankings? I am new this year to ranked, and I'm trying to figure out how it works. I know how points are rewared per race, I just dont know how they are added in the end. Any help would be nice .

The quick answer: it's generally the average of your two best recent results in the relevant event.

The answer that's also quick to give, and more accurate, though harder for the recipient: read Chapter 3 of the Alpine Competition Guide to get a summary of some tweaks and exceptions.

So someone could get 31pts and 33 pts in 2 races making their season points 32? Also, does age factor in at all?

Correct on the average. No, age doesn't matter.
There are new penalties for hills that don't meet specs this year. I haven't been to my refresher yet so I haven't got the latest info.

Thanks for all of the answers, one las thing. It doesnt matter how many races you race in, only the 2 best count, right?

correct.

Although you will have two separate point distinctions: one for FIS and one for National points.

(I believe) any points you earn in a FIS event will count toward your national points, but not vice versa.

Thats assuming he races any FIS races, otherwise he will only have the USSA points ranking.

And if the first year you race they average THOSE best two races, the points KIND OF carry over into the second year. But from year to year for USSA points, there will be an adder. For a while, you will get start placements in the second year based on the fact that you were a hot shot in your first year, but as time goes on your points will keep getting worse as they carry from one year to another unless you perform well again. I forget how long before they start totally ignoring those first year points....

Nah, wont make it to FIS this year. 1st (full) year mainly self taught independent racers usually dont go that far .

One distinction:

it is not your most recent results, it is your most recent results that are on the most recent points list. The points list is only published one a month.

So, even if you got your two best results last weekend and and skied 6 more races and lowered you points further until the new list comes out reflecting your new lower points your start order would be predicated on your old points form the previous list.

Seems like with technology, they could update the points list more regularly?

This year, new lists every 3 weeks.

That is certainly better, but not a qauntum leap.

A racer could cut there points in half (just an example) and still have to race from a starting position in the same spot for 2-3 weeks instead of 4 weeks.
