Colorado Mountain College

My Son is going to be attending classes at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs next Fall. (lucky kid huh?) Although we have been to Steamboat many times over the years, I don't know much about the College. We are going to be in Colorado in February for ten days and plan to spend three days in Steamboat to ski and look at the school to make sure it will be alright for him.

My question is, does anyone know anything about this School? Have any of you Bears been there or attended classes there? Or, know of anyone who has? If so, any info about the place would be helpful.

Don't know anything about the school, but I'm now happy to say I got a friend to bunk with when I ski there.

EDIT: Wow. My sig. at the bottom has been spelled wrong for over a year and no one pointed it out. Choose was spelled chose.

I took my son there last summer for a visit. It is a very small two year school. Like any college, it is perfect for some and wrong for others. www.coloradomtn.edu

I too am from the east and things are just different in some ways out west....towns, rules, manners, weather, terrain and colleges. In the east there are colleges all over the place, and many of them are ranked very high by ranking services. There are fewer colleges in Colorado than there are within an hour's drive of my house. Generally the smaller state colleges in Colorado have lower ranking than the smaller state colleges in NY & PA. One reason: many students travel from other states and just arn't ready to be so far from home. They tranfer out and the colleges loose ranking points. These schools do provide a quality education for students who want to take advantage of it.

My son has selected Western in Gunnison.

One of my co-workers form summer camp, George Thomas, is the Head Coach there. I don't know if your son is going for the team but George is an excellent coach if he is.

Thanks for the info guys. Actually, he's into freeride and the park scene. He's very good and after skiing with some pros at Whistler the past two summers, he wants to be near the free ride circuit. And, most importantly get some kind of education and finish school somewhere else. I'm sure he will get education of another matter while there but can only hope for the best. If it was me, I would do it. He knows that. I have told him honestly.
