Disabled Ski Team Theft

FRISCO, Colo. (AP) -- Thieves stole $10,000 worth of skis and other gear from the U.S. disabled ski team less than a week before the team is to fly to Europe for a competition.

The equipment was taken from the team's van in a motel parking lot late Wednesday or early Thursday, police officer Larry Waetjen said. There were no witnesses and no suspects Friday, he said.

"The guys had finished tuning and just loaded up the van to be ready to go race the next morning," coach Sandy Metzger said. "This is such a bummer."

The team competed Thursday at Breckenridge Ski Resort despite the theft.

Ski theft is a major problem in the area and thefts usually go unsolved.

The people who did this don't deserve to live

I didn't know that ski theft was a major problem in summit county, I have stayed in frisco several times, you are right this is low even for thieves, hope they find the people responsible & fry them.

I know that some people here think that the powder maggots are a childish, immature bunch, but they have set up a pay pal account to help rasie money to off set the cost of replacing much of the equipment. If interested, go to the powder message board for more info.

that's *ucking low. If anyone doesn't deserve that, it's those awesome folks on the disable team. I know a couple of them, and they can ski better than a few able body people i know. Hope they catch the jerks, then cut thier hands off.

Karsten, if there's a room in Hell, maybe its one where they have to wait in a never-ending lift line on a powder day. I seriously doubt that the thieves hit their target knowing that their victims were disabled. They just saw their opportunity and went for it. Either way, hopefully they will be caught.
