I am about your size 5'8" 170lbs and I have both the AT & XL, but I have them in the next size down (166 & 164) as I find that they ski long. In any case, it seems that people either love or hate the XL. Personally, I find it to be too stiff. I've skied and enjoyed stiff skis before (WC SL for example), but I still find the XL too stiff. I find the AT to be much more enjoyable and easier to ski because it is easier to make a variety of turns at a range of speeds. They are both stable at speed, but the XL prefers the higher speeds and gives up versatility at lower speeds.
The XL is a wood core and the AT an isocore construction. I have several Stocklis and I always prefer the isocore constructed skis from them. (FWIW, I typically prefer wood-core skis from other manufacturers.)
You may also consider the shorter lengths of these skis.
