There is one line cut at Squaw that is pretty funny to me. When Granite Chief gets super crowded on a mad pow day and people are expected to load 3 to a chair.. Inevitably somebody doesn't get it sorted and only 2 people will scurry up to the loading zone which causes the whole lift line to groan at them.
But this is when the line cutter can make his mad dash! If yo've never skied Granite Chief, it's laid out so that the singles line is parallel/next to the loading zone and if you're quick you can duck under the rope and dash across ahead of the incoming chair to fill that empty spot thereby cutting directly in front of EVERYBODY.
Needless to say this requires delicate timing but after the first guy pulls it off it turns into this whole spectacle with everyone in the singles line eyeing the people loading on the chair waiting for someone to screw up so they can attempt the mad dash while the crowd looks on vicariously, mildly entertained by the whole thing. Sometimes 2 or 3 singles will try for the same spot or someone won't time it right and has to get back in line and then gets heckled by the crowd..
funny chit happens on a pow day.
oh and I'm not advocating dashing in front of incoming chairs, just adding a little color on the subject of line cutting.
bet this post ends the thread anyway.
