Loveland - 10/22 - Midseason Conditions

We spent the day at Loveland, after a nice snow yesterday and last night.

Not much was open - 1 chair and a few runs. But, what was there was wonderful - ideal mid-season conditions without a single trace of rocks or branches, and perfect packed-powder snow.

I'm amazed that October 22 could provide skiing conditions of this quality. If this is an indication of what Colorado has to offer (year-round), bring it on!

If you're wondering if Loveland is worth it, mid-October, don't hesitiate. It's great!

Fabulous to hear as we will be out there starting on Thursday.

dropping into Denver Saturday morning.

hope to ride Loveland and/or A-Basin Sunday and Monday (still waiting for those 4 packs to show up...if they don't by Friday i'll gladly mail one to somebody in exchange for a "loaner" over the weekend)

Thinking of riding Loveland on Sunday; I'll let you know if you want to meet and take a few runs.

sounds potentially suitable!

i'll update as i get closer to the trip as i'm bouncing back and forth with a few local folks sussing them out. though one of them (uber cute chicka) is a notorious snow snob, so she probably won't be motivated to join me.

also, but the amount of terrain open, it seems like it's just a half day type of endeavor...get on the hill at 8:30 and ride through 12ish, which is fine by me.

Absolutely! Let's do it!

Plus, our condo search has been bewildering. Perhaps you can shed some light!

As a general rule at A Basin or LL, you won't see rocks when they first open because they create a solid base of manmade on the 1-2 runs they open. It's when they start opening everything else that's 100% natural that you'll want to bring rock skis.

^Sweet!

Tsavo, I'm down for the turnage.

Looks like I'll be rolling to the hills solo, so yeah we should rally a meeting spot and whatnot.

Also, my 4Paks haven't shown up in the mail, so if anybody is willing to "loan" me one for Sunday, I'll gladly flip you one in the mail when mine arrive.

I'm good for it. Honest.

And Strato, we need to swap Scandinavian stories!

We'll be there on Sunday. They should have two chairs running by then, both with man-made snow base, and hopefully some natural on top.

If the 2nd chair is anything like Spillway and the runs we skied yesterday, I'll be a happy honcho .

PS: We tried the Tommyknocker brewery at Idaho Springs on the way home - what awesome brews! Some of that stuff is almost 10% alcohol content. After 2 beers, I was relegated to passenger seat.

Meeting Sunday at 11. Meet at the chair that's currently open. Do you know what the next chair open will be? That will be nice to have 2 chairs.
