Rec's for EC-turned WC skier

My buddy Dave is a former EC skier (Vermont, New Hampshire) now living here in Cali.

he's been out of the mix for a few seasons, but has begun to dream about getting back into the swing of things (working next to me has definitely prompted this).

at any rate, he's a hardcore long distance runner, so his cardio and endurance is primo.

he's 5'8 and 125 (lithe).

last ski he can recall riding was a 170 Atomic (can't remember the model name).

he's looking for some suggestions.

he's mostly interested in groomers with minimal off-piste performance (he's EC bred, but i'mma break him into WC skiing).

i have a pair of 175 Blizzard Titan 8's which are pretty stiff and at 80mm in the waist would be a good EC into WC ski, but might be a bit long for him.

what're the collective's thoughts?

The 175cm Titan is too long and too stiff. A 160 cm Fischer RX9 would be great if he is a good skier.

Perfect...not too long either, expecially if he knows how to bend a ski. Something 80mm+, in a 170cm+.

Don't get carving skis.......

That Titan will be a good ski. It skis short.

If he skis fairly fast on open trails they will be great. If he tries to do tight moguls with them he will have trouble.

yeah, that's what i was thinking.

at 5'11" and 190 (damn, i get lazy in the summer, but will def drop down to 180-175 come full-bore season) i ended up never mounting them as i thought they might eventually be too short (bought the 181 T9 instead).

though the day i demoed the 175 it RIPPED. very stable ski. didn't get it into any moguls, but i had no problem whipping the 181 around in some medium sized bumps.

i guess i'll have my buddy scope out the skis for himself.

and i'll try and get him on here to chime in, as well (i'm finding, though, that most of my buddy's who claim to want to get back in the game are a bit slackerish).

and Highway, while i don't always agree with you, here i kinda do. I was thinking that since he's coming from the East grip is going to be important. But since he's going to be skiing Tahoe and Colo that something a wee bit wider than what he was one before would be the ticket. But not too wide: 78mm-85mm tops).

looks like my buddy is gonna buy my T8's.

he came over to the crib last night and checked 'em out. He was like "Yeah, these are sweet. I'll buy 'em."

Then he looked over and saw my 188 Lib Tech NAS Mt. Bakers and exclaimed "Damn, those are the biggest skis I've ever seen." Wish I'd had the Spats lying around 'cuz then he really woulda freaked out.

at any rate he's gonna give the T8's a go...now he's off to score some new boots.

I agree with Highway Star.

There, I said it. That wasn't as hard I I thought it would be.

i think he's gonna be fine with the 175's. they're about 2 inches taller than he is.

he's a scrawny scrapper, i mean he's a buck 25!

plus i'd need some 188 T9's to replace those 181's!
