It was supposed to be auctioned off this past summer (along with Deer Haven). I have no idea whether or not it will be opened or not this year - or under what conditions.

That whole area is pretty cool though. If one were appropriately wary of avy issues, I'd imagine you could find some super impressive skin or sled accessed stuff there...

Heh - just checked Google and found this: http://www.wyomingbusinessreport.com...e.asp?id=87834 and http://www.saminfo.com/news/article.php?tid=1684 As I far as I could tell when I read up on him last spring, the current owner is a certifiable nutter... Allegedly he's left all kinds of shareholder and contractual messes all over the world (US, NZ, etc). So who knows...

When I lived in Gillette for 2 years went up there often so I am familiar with the area, it's beautiful but very isolated. Stayed at Deerhaven. The owner tried to auction them off again recently but there were no takers.

Apparently there were takers. As I noted above, everything I've read indicates the owner is a total flake (seems to have left smoking corporate wreckage of all sorts from media companies in NZ to a supposed jet manufacturer). The auction announcements were very clear about the nature of the auction - absolute/no reserve.... Bids were submitted but the owner is trying to bail on claimed technicalities. Sounds like lawsuits are likely to ensue. Glad I didn't bid .

Hey Spin...thanks for the link......is the Big Horn Ski Resort just a new name for the Meadowlark Ski Area I skied in the 70's?

cloudpeak, my local Big Horn Mountains expert, says - yup, they are the same. Apparently the current owner did a bunch of renaming...

If it matters to you, the current owner of Big Horn Resorts seems to be flaky.

BTW, the ski area at Big Horn Resorts did indeed used to be called Meadlowlark Ski Area.

On Big Horn Resorts' site (Big Horn Resorts), it looks like they intend to open this year. The area often has really light powder, and for those so inclined, it also offers some exciting cliff jumps. Antelope Butte by Shell Canyon can be really fun, too, but appears still to be closed this year. I heard a rumor that Big Horn County and the town of Basin tried to buy it, but I don't know what ever happened with that. Nonetheless, you might check to see if that area might be open again, too.

Since you'll be in the neighborhood you should also check out the other ski resort in the area.

LOL. I thought that was a joke but it is an actual Brokeback Mountain resort.

You might want to take a close look at the trail map: http://www.skibrokeback.com/images/s...ail_map_HR.jpg

Actually, one of the very annoying things about the movie was that neither the mountains nor the towns in the movie in any way resembled Big Horn country. The Big Horns & environs are vastly cooler than what they showed in the movie.

What are you doing in Buffalo? All kinds of neat stuff there...
