Am also heading to Vail on the 12thAll of CO has great skiing, but you can't go wrong w/ Vail and Beaver Creek. Just watch the weather for the road conditions between Denver and Vail - should be ok by Wed, but the pass can be hairy.
Vail/Bvr Crk will provide great scenery, skiing for all levels, excellent food and a great town ambiance. beware - food is not cheap on the mountain.
We go every year at this time and the conditions are usually good by mid-Dec. And the snow gods are really doing their thing well at the moment. If you are a good skier - definitely head for the back bowls or blue sky after you've explored the front of the mountain.
Plenty of places to get ski's in Vail, however, since you are driving - you may find a better deal in one of the small ski shops just off 70 before you arrive in Vail.
Also - if you don't want to drive btn Vail and Beaver Creek, the bus is a great option - you don't have to look for parking, etc... drops you off right near the lifts for BC.
In BC, enjoy the fire pit outside of the Hyatt. Nice place to warm your toes, have a nice apres ski and enjoy a free homemade cookie!!!
