What now for early season in the East?

So, now that K-mart apparently isn't opening before the 17th, where do we go for early season?

Whiteface? Tremblant? Hunter? Jiminy? Does anyone else in VT open early?

I was hoping for a Nov 3 Killington opening this year, but I guess that's not in the works.

PS If you like to obsess over the weather this time of year, check out this forum, I'm addicted. http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?showforum=15

Maybe Sugarbush will step up. They are high enough. None of the other mts in Southern Vt would work.

Jiminy Peak will blow snow early if at all possible. I have skied there in November for years and it was pretty good. This year the Zepher wind power tower will make it more cost effective.

I think for the last few years, the first ski areas to open on the east coast were in NC, ie sugar mountain and/or catalootchee.

I know the last few years I lived back there, they before Thanksgiving.

Sunday River has posted a projected opening day of Fri Nov 9th....cold weather permitting. Can't envision anyone in the NE opening any sooner than that.

I would place my money on Sugarloaf and maybe Mount Snow if it gets cold enough that far south.

Belleayre usually opens pretty early. A few times they've been first in the east. That early in the season it shouldn't be too bad because of LI/NYC/NJ doesn't realize its ski season yet

With the current temperature...?

Let's hope we'll have a solid openning on Thanksgiving!

I agree on Mount Snow, they've done a great job in the past with early snowmaking and grooming. Still late november though.

Last year it was Okemo and Bretton Woods that opened first.
