Are you ready? Come on, are you really ready?

We have snow reports coming in and in a matter of weeks we will all be doing what many of us have spent the past 7 months discussing analyzing, dissecting, pontificating, and dreaming about. Question now is, are you ready?

Skis ready?
Body ready?
Mind frame ready?
Other gear ready?
Your crew ready?
Plans ready?

Ill start:
Skis, 2 out of three are ready to go, one needs more wax and some baking.

Body, big no, need to do much more weight lifting, have not managed to get back in the gym since recovering and time is running out! :

My mind, in spite of my past season's injuries, is ready. But the true test will be once I look down that icy NE mountain.

As far as my other gear, there are a few more safety items I want to add to my armor arsenal in order to avoid anything similar to last seasons occurences. I also might buy some form of on-hill boot warmer.

My freinds and family, not ready at all, with exception to my GF dad, he's ready and willing.

I do have reservations for New Years at Equinox in Stratton though!!!!

Skis ready?
No. It's not like last year for me. I haven't had much time to get skis in order for myself. I have been working on other people. Titans are at Northern right now for a preseason tune. SL's just need a buffing. A couple of pair are to be ordered yet.
Body ready?
Not even close. I should be doing scissors right now and not replying to this thread.
Mind frame ready?
No. Been in the process of buying, selling and moving, that has taken my focus. Come 12/1 I will switch that priority.
Other gear ready?
Need to send back some lenses. Il Moros haven't arrived yet. Clothing, left over from last year.
Your crew ready?
More ready than I am.
Plans ready?
Trip west planned. Okemo Frequent cards bought. Just need my sons college pass, but that can be done until December.

I read a story about the Rolling Stones once. Before a concert, Jagger was backstage working out with dumbells or something. Richards and Wood were drinking in their dressing room. The text went something like this: "An hour before the show, Richards switches from vodka tonic to vodka and cranberry juice."

So you can see, everyone has their own way of stepping it up as the start of the big show gets nearer.

Skis ready?
Not even close. I still have 4 pairs of skis that didn't get their summer wax, so I have my work cut out for me if I intend to get those back in shape. I also don't have any of my new gear yet, but it should be on it's way soon.

Body ready?
Yes. I'm still need to step up the heavy weight with my legs in preparation for hitting the snow, but my endurance is way up from road biking all summer. I have also been regularly lifting weights and working my core 3 or 4 times a week, so I am in very good shape... now I just have to maintain it until ski season.

Mind frame ready?
Bring it on! :

Other gear ready?
I still need a coat and ski pants... This will be the 4th or 5th season that I have needed a coat and pants (still haven't replaced them).

Your crew ready?
Gear for the rest of my family is only half set so far, but should be mostly taken care of within a few weeks.

Plans ready?
A few, but not all traveling plans are set in stone yet. The only one that is a definite right now is ESA Stowe.
Well, we'll find out about this time tomorrow.

New (to me) skis - Check. No bindings yet. Skis for 4 yo acquired - no bindings or boots.

Body ready? - Working on it. I normally subscribe to the totally anerobic beach muscle maintenance program. Trying to get on the bike and the skates in the next month.

Mind frame ready? - always

Other gear ready? - cleaned packed and ready to rock from last year.

Your crew ready? - Race League flyer came in the mail today. E-mailing my captain with last years results today.

Plans ready? I have 2 toddlers. Where do I think I am going?

Skis ready? More or less. All need summer wax scraped. New pairs need mounts, but they won't be skied the first weekend anyway -- that's for old skis -- and I want to take advantage of my Alpine Meadows Silver Pass (pre-season prepay for service in $100 increments gets you 2x value, excess carried over to next season).

Body ready? More than usual. Ever the contrarian, I hate New Year's resolutions, but it got pretty extreme this year -- I joined a gym on July 1.

Mind frame ready? Between reading the boards and the mags, watching ski pr0n, and taking OEC, beyond ready.

Other gear ready? Still on the fence re new boots vs. new Intuition liners. Other than that, good to go.

Your crew ready? My kids' reaction to rain has progressed over the years. A few years ago, when it would start to rain, they'd complain, and I'd respond that the good news is, when it rains where we live, it snows in Tahoe. A year or two ago, if it started to rain, they'd gripe a little, then say that at least it's snowing in Tahoe. 10 days ago, I picked them up from school, and in the car ride home, it started raining for the first time since April. They erupted into cheers. No explanation necessary.

And whenever OEC is mentioned, at least one kid asks when they can be a victim. It seemed very strange to their babysitter last night.

But oh yeah, they're ready.

Plans ready? Finished negotiating and signed the ski lease this week -- 3br/2ba at the base of Alpine Meadows. I still have to send in the ski team registration by the 15th, and the pass purchase has to been done by November 30th.

Seriously. And I didn't even mention how cute it is to watch seven-year-olds intensely analyze the gear guide issues. Or how when any of my kids find a particularly cool pic in a ski mag, they immediately ask whether the subject or photographer is a maggot, and if so, whether they've met him or her.

My kids are growing up with an intensely and beautifully warped view of the world.

Crew? I don't need/want a crew with me while I track up a bunch of fresh powder.

Plans ready?
My plans don't need to be ready. They're basically decided on a daily basis. If I wake up in the morning and look up at the mountains and see new snow on the hills, I'm probably skiing ( sometimes blue skies are also required ).

Skis ready?
Almost.
2 pairs of SL and 2 pairs of GS ready to go.
1 pair of SG waiting in Canada for me (thanks brian)
1 pair of Gotama's ready to go.
1 pair of Volkl Rebellions and 1 Pair of Stockli Snake Ts just ordered.

Body ready?
I think so, been killing myself on the handcycle each day and building core stability with weights.

Mind frame ready?
I've been studying videos and visualizing like a crazy person. Literally.

Other gear ready?
Kinda. I have a brand new and custom built shock absorber for this season, I'm really excited about the new possibilities it opens up for speed and control. I also had a custom made seat insert made, which for a sitskier is the same as custom made boots, should give much finer control too. All in, the sit ski has cost about $10,000 now, so it better be ready. Glad I dont need to buy a new one each season.
Just need to get a new jacket, I'll grab one when I get up to Banff, the selection of mountain ready clothing is pretty slim in Alabama.

Your crew ready?
I'm a one man show.

Plans ready?
November is taken care of, already bought my lift tickets. Still have to finalise the logistics for a couple races in December, but I'm just hiring an RV and living in the carparks, so that wont take much planning at all.

l

skis? Gotamas & M666s ready to go.

body? Did 62.5 miles at 20 mph on a road bike on Sunday. I guess some power work will help, though...

mind? can't freakin' wait.

other? yep, I got new Arcteryx shell, new midlayers after 4 years, etc. Wifey got new BMW X3 to replace aging Subie

plans? Tahoe for New Year's with the family, Aspen after X games with the Dudes, day trips to Kirkwood/Sugar Bowl will happen as soon as it snows. May have to see if wife wants to hit T-ride or Taos to round out the spring, depending on snowfall this year...

Crew? Wife and I are stoked to get our daughter up to Tahoe & playing in the snow. Dudes are paid up & getting stoked for Aspen.

I learned this morning in the paper that US Air will no longer be flying from Pittsburgh to Denver effective in January! I have two frequent flyers on Useless Air I was planning on using this winter to get out to Colorado. They are reducing their daily flights from a peak of 550 a day out of Pittsburgh down to 65 (this has been ongoing the past several years). I can't remember anytime I flew from Pitt to Denver when the flight wasn't full.

Got to find out if US Air frequent flyer points can be used on United. It seemed most flight west on US Air where United flights more recently.

Am I ready

Body - I run and lift almost every day, but was interested in starting the Phil Mahre workouts that were in the last Ski Magazine. Phil still looking great at 50.

Equipment- Unless a change of heart occurs I plan on skiing on what I got, and using the same boots. Sent the boot heaters back last spring and picked up the replacement Hotronics last month.

Plans- Head out before Christmas to use one of the frequent flyers. Hopefully another trip mid season. Then April 1 on Vail free on the Colorado card .

Still playing golf and hitting balls so haven't been thinking much about skiing. I sure hope we can avoid three winters in a row here when most of January had Octber type temps!
I AM NOT READY, but most importantly, mother nature is not ready.

Toronto temps are 25-30 Celsius and snow is the last thing on my mind. On the positive side, mountain biking is fantastic and although the race season has come to an end, I intend to ride into December.
Well it took me an hour to find my patagucci pants this morning and I forgot to re-glue my skins, but I managed somehow.

That's one of the nice things about living somewhere the "off-season" is just 4 months of slow season instead of 7 months of no season

Am I ready? Really, really ready!
Skis ready?
Uh huh.......well maybe one pair need a touch up tune but yea!
Quiver TBA

Body ready?
Very! I have spent the summer with my normal eating habits which consist of smart foods.......well, okay I made more than a few trips to DQ, and that Chocolate Tall Cake at Ruby Tuesdays is to die for, but a girls gotta splurge some times
For Fitness, I spent a lot of time on the driving range, golf course(walking the course of course), Mt biking, and my new hobby-Rollerblading! I am feeling very fit and strong
Heck, I actually lost 10 lbs. Has someone else found it?

Mind frame ready?
Oh Yeah!!!
Well.........except I am still having fun golfing and mt biking, but if given the choice to do those or ski.................Skiing Wins!!!

Other gear ready?
New Poles - Check
Boots fit - Check(although one buckle seems loose, so I'll have to check that)
All of last years ski clothes fit.

Your crew ready?

Fill a Quad passes for the family and friends!!
Plenty of Ski buddies!
Plans ready?
Oh, and Pierre said he's going to come north and ski with us
post #21 of 26
Skis ready?
Yup, just got them all back from this shop all tuned up.

Body ready?
Been biking and running about 6 days a week since beginning of May I sure hope that does the trick.

Mind frame ready?
SO STOKED, Annual ski film festival is end of next week, 6 movies over 3 days that should get my drooling.

Other gear ready?
Still need to get some new gloves (any ideas?) and a pack for this season. Everything else is good to go.

Your crew ready?
Sure hope so, but don't have a clue, don't really talk to him because hes 2 provinces over till the winter comes in, I'm pretty much a lone wolf till end of November anyway.
Plans ready?

Skis ready?
No where near. I have 3 (maybe 4) pair of skis to mount and I still can't decide which bindings go on which skis. My rock skis are a mess and need serious edge work.

Body ready?
Not too bad. I'm taking numerous dance classes and dancing a lot with my girl friend. My mountain biking season was cut short & now the mountains are full of snow so I won't be doing much more. That means I'll be in shape aerobically but will need to build up my leg strength via skiing.

Mind frame ready?
Never is until the 3rd or 4th run of the day except on powder days.

Other gear ready?
Just need to drag it out of storage & put new batteries in the transceivers.

Your crew ready?
Hmmmm. The past two years I broke up with the gal I was dating right before ski season....something my friends were very suspicious of. This year I am dating someone I'd be a total fool to break up with. She skis & wants to really get into it but she's lacking essentials like rock skis and powder skis. Thankfully the swap is coming up.

Plans ready?
I got a new locker at Bridger, will get my pass today and put in for a Big Sky frequency card. My only travel plans are to travel to The Gathering but can't make definite plans yet due to my mother's recent medical setbacks.

I think Roundturns was talking about Phil MAHRE.

But, that brings another question up..............did YOU find the 10 lbs I lost?
Skis ready?
Not really. Need to get new rock skis setup. Need to grind at least three pair. Should probably find some ski to fill that gap between my 70mm groomer boards and my 110mm big skis.
Body ready?
Not even close. Core strength and aerobic performance need a ton of work.
Mind frame ready?
Never until I'm clicked in and turning. The better the skiing is looking, the more uneasy I get.
Other gear ready?
I haven't bought any ski gear in more than a year. I might have to buy a hat (lost my old one) and a pair of gloves this year. Someday I'll replace my 1999 shell with something better and newer.
Your crew ready?
I'd love to get a crew. Couple years in, and I still don't have a solid ABQ crew of like-minded skiers.
Plans ready?
Planning on a couple meets through here, planned a Thanksgiving trip with friends...other than that I'll go where the snow and buddies with couches take me.
Ski Ready? - kinda' I got my C-11's ready, waiting on delivery of my 78's and Watea 94's. They will need to be prepped and a few layers of wax.

Body? Yes, working hard, had rehab this summer. We'll see how well the knees hold up, but feeling good. I still have chicken legs but getting some good definition makes me feel they're strong.

Mind? That's a lost cause, I have ski dreams all-year around at least a couple times a week. Earlier this week I was skiing spring crud....

Other gear? I am a gear whore......

Crew? Yes. Looking forward to skiing December with a few bears.

Plans? End of November early december- Quick warmup to Rochester to ski with friend, hopefully make turns with Hellava (Greg) December 15-27 Steamboat, january 13-20 Jackson, February 6-13 Back to the Boat, March, Alta? back to the boat March/April.
