Ok these dates are set in stone friday at alta and sunday at snowbird. This poll is for the saturday. Saturday can be the only really crowded day in the wasatch. 2 resorts dont really get crowded.

Snowbasin and Solutide

I really want to go ski snowbasin with people who know but the reality is with everyone being down in the Cottonwood Canyons area that a 1 hour drive north might not be the best idea, especially if it snows to the valley floor.

so simple poll which resort should the gathering that day take place at?

solitude? or snowbasin?

also should be said that this poll will be over oct 30th at which point I will post up a vote for where to ski monday.

Gotta go with Solitude. Right there. Easy meet/hookups - even if people run a bit late. Easy reconnection if split up.

Yeah, the lift system is a bit weird...

yep weird lifts for sure, but they keep the snow from getting tracked

outside of alta/bird I skied solitude the most and can say it would be the place I would have season pass at if I was a weekend warrior.

I'm with Snowbasin, because I'd love to hit it up with some folks who really know what's what. I get that its less convenient, and either option is great..I love Solitude as well.

You do know, of course, that a Saturday during which it's snowing all the way to the valley floor would be the absolute BEST possible time to go to Snowbasin.

I kind of thought the decision had already been made to do Solitude on Saturday. I'm totally fine with that and I'll vote that way in the poll. It doesn't matter a huge amount to me because I'll be skiing Snowbasin that following Monday. I like Solitude a lot and would happily ski there.

I'm saying Snowbasin if only because I've never been there and I always like to try some place new.

But I'm just down for riding with the cool peoples.

BTW, where is Powder Mountain in relation to all of this? I always hear good things about that spot.

lower-right, north of snowbasin

trying to recall who led the bears into the skier-swallowing trough that grabbed a few after we'd done the mini-schlep to catherine's from top o' supreme.

that was entertaining.

Hmmmmm.

The vote is getting pretty close.

7 Solitude to 5 Snowbasin at this point.

It's almost a cliffhanger. :

Do I get to vote if I'm not going to be there?

Anybody want to buy my vote? I'll sell it, cheap!

I skiid Solitude last year the day after a storm and there was still plenty of untracked everywhere. Then again, I've always wanted to ski Snowbasin. I'm sure either one will be great but I'll vote Solitude and hit Snowbasin another day.

Believe I've driven by there...I've never heard of the place. Closed says the Google. Sounds like a good place to go for a hike.

Ryan must've posted an out of date map above then (and according to my Ski Utah 2008 guide it doesn't exist either).

Change my vote (again) to Beaver Mountain (or Wolf Mountain).

As long as we're doing mammal mountains, how about Elk Mountain? It's a bit of a drive and it hasn't been open for about ten years, but I've heard there's some very nice backcountry skiing to be had there.

Anybody know where SCSA wants to ski?

If we find out, can we then go to the other place?!?
I gotta say that I rode with SCSA last season at Beaver Creek. Dude is a solid skier. Cool guy, too. He can be a little intense, but he's a passionate skier and I enjoyed riding with him. Plus I totally upped my game after spending the entire morning sloughing through the powder covered ice moguls of Ripsaw back off the Rose Bowl chair. I was totally tripping at how precisely he rode the bumps while I was hacking like a lumberjack with a dull axe. Dude even sent me a sweet Stihl cap (after i remarked how his was pretty cool). No complaints here. I actually plan to ride a few times with him this season.

But I also realize that it's "too each their own." I'm sure there's a few folks here that would eventually rub me the wrong way if I hung out with them too much. And I'm sure that I might actually end up rubbing others the wrong way if they hung out with me too much. But hey, that's what it's all about. Not everybody can get along like silk covered gummy bears (that would be smooth and sweet for those lost in the simile).

So far all the Bears and Maggots I've ridden with have been aces, even the ones that others don't seem to cotton to. Guess I'm just one of those cats who can pretty much get along with anybody and is willing to ride with anybody at least once.

Dookey,
I Am with you! Pauls ok! Like skiing with him also, had 3-4 good days with him last year. He knows the Beav better then most! He knows where to find the Goods!
Look foward to skiing with him & his Posse again this season.

If I can be there, I'd vote for Solitude. It's my old home mountain, and I still have places I love to go where few tend to tread.

But the 'Basin is also a great place - especially on a big dump day (though the top of Strawberry can be skiing by braille if it's socked in).

My only problem? I'm likely volunteering at the FIS World Cup races in Whistler at the end of February, so the expense of a trip to Utah and a trip to BC could be a deal-killer. We'll see.
