Patrol Shack Evaluation - Feedback request

This forum has been here for a while and I thought I'd ask the patrollers who have been here if you think its meeting a need, or if we should consider an alternative format. Pretty much anything you want is on the table including leaving things as-is; converting this to a completely private forum, visible only to Patrol Shack members, or private with a public front-end.

Confidentiality has been a concern expressed by several here. This could be resolved by creating a members only back room. Basically, I'd need a couple volunteers to manage things like member selection and forum guidelines, and we could set it up with a link off the public page. There is no pressure to do anything. I just want to hear your ideas so we can meet your interests as best we can.

We do get feedback from the non-patrol public that they appreciate what they learn from the conversations here even though they rarely post. Perhaps we should encourage them to post here more often.

I kind of like the way things are. HIPA laws apply to both private and public forums. I personally would make the same posts in both a private and public Epicski Patrol forum.

I would be interested if National Ski Patrol got any new patrollers because of this forum.

Well, I'm probably a good example of someone who would have been better off in a private forum, because I once got in a bit of hot water over a post here.

Still, I think it belongs out in the open. Patrollers have venues for confidential discussion, and it is good to get some interaction with the rest of the ski world.

I think it's alright Cirque. I just don't think we have that many patrollers or ex patrollers here right now. Let's see what the Winter brings and then access it's needs then.

As of now, I kind of like it the way it has been, but I can see the need for a "patrollers-only" type of forum. Some of the EMS forums I visit from time to time require you register and verify your medical status before you can access posts with run info in them.

I guess I think the public/private idea is best. I'd be glad to help out any way I can.

Ski safe,
Hans

Just taking the temperature here. Looks like we are doing fine.
Still open to ideas.

If we had as many patrollers here as we do ski instructors, it might be ok to have a patrollers only forum. At this point, we'd starve ourselves to death. The interaction and questions by non patrollers is needed. I was one of the advocates for the patrollers forum to begin with. It took off nicely there for a while. Like everything else, it's had it's down moments. If it doesn't pick up this winter, we should take a looksee for improvments.

I like the snow cirque.

I'm on board with the comments already stated-1. I like it the way it is 2. if it were a Patroller only privated forum-it'd get awfu quiet in here (even more quiet than it already is.

I like being able to see what you lot talk about, especially as the idea of working as a patroller is definitely there in my mind

Our conversation is definitely focused. We usually talk about women, ski equipment, women, off season recreation, where we're going drinking to meet women, occasionally a better way to do things on patrol (either safety or medical, oh, and women.

2-turn finally someone said it. I guess everyone now knows patrollers don't sit around all day talking about what is the best way to splint a fractured Tibia.

I think patrollers might have a new pin up poster right here on EpicSki. : Take a look at those boots. They only have three buckles.

Lars, that's what you see? :

Damn, dude! You're gettin old

Lets try a test... Do you see a beach and beautiful scenery?

What beach?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I like to open forum, and agree that it better facilitates interaction between patrollers and the "general pubic" (for lack of any better term).

That said, this will be my first year as a alpine patroller, having finished my candidacy at the end of last season - so take it for what it's worth . . .

Scenery

I see a little bit of beach on the left, but the scenery sure is beautiful!

I may be old, but I'm not dead!

Bagger Vance: Yeah, I always felt a man's grip on his club just like a man's grip on his world.

What does that say about the grip I have on my world?

Lars How about you and me, 9 holes, with ski boots.........That oughta be interesting!

Pretty new here, but I like this forum so far. It's a little quiet in the Patrol Shack section, but that's OK. It's nice to hear from other patrollers and read other's experiences while patrolling.

As for being a "member only" section, I'm not sure how you could monitor that? Doesn't matter to me either way, not that my opinion counts much.
