Big storm just rolled though Utah. Waking up I was greeted by this view.

Clouds, mountain, and some snow lurking up high.

by the time me and my roommate leave to go up the canyon the lake effect band has shifted south.

It was snowing hard enough to cover LCC road

We arrive I am stoked there is actually enough snow to make turns on the very grassy beginner slope at the bird.

My roommate Adrian is stoked too, 3 week in utah since he moved out of North Carolina and he get to see his first storm.

It flat and thin cover but it will have to do, I am the first person here, I will be the first person in the entire state to ski

well ski in a very loose sense of the word.

Massive air!!! or is it me just trying to get moving on skis that shoulda of been waxed

Gnar Gnar sidewalk

little backwards skiing cause the slope is so flat

I actually made turns ok turns not great but at least the snow was soft

The slope was flat snow not deep, but I skied today what did you do?

So stoked on the lamest slope ever

till the next hopefully 'real' snowfall

You sure put a smile on my face this morning. Two guys having fun, grins and giggles. What more could you ask for.

We got just a bit here last night, but not enough to even slide on.

Have a great season.

Thanks for posting this, I found it especially interesting since there's practically no snow at the bottom of the bird right now. I keep checking the web-cam since I will be there later this year for two weeks, and after that big storm that you took advantage it's been nothing but melting. Odd that there's more snow there in October then November. Alta delayed their opening, and the season started so well!

missed this the first go around. although I wish it was snowing like that right now I'm comforted by seasons gone by...(cue old guy voice) I remember in 1997-98 when The Canyons first opened they didn't actually open until the day before Christmas due to a dry start. It was a meager beginning but it came in force after arriving. One of my deepest ski days ever was in Feb of that year - bottomless runs with refills all day long on South Side Condor which if you've skied The Canyons you'll know how much snow it takes and how often it needs to come down to have that happen.

I was there for the National Avalanche School at the end of Oct. Lots of early season skiing and warm enough to sleep in my car.
