/rant.

The ski area has nothing to do with this.  The ski area spent millions fighting this.

I was referring to the city, and the strategies of expansion in general. I'm not familiar with the area in question but the pattern is similar in many resorts across the states.

Yeah. I'm not a huge fan of resortification, but this pales even in response to that. I don't know any other time that a 3rd party has decided to build one of these stupid base villages against the wishes of the ski area.

Sounds daft - I don't know Wolf but it sounds to me like a recipe for disaster brewing .  A ski area which is predominantly locals, enthusiasts and those who like the bareish bones; and a developer who wants a deluxe destination village in the middle of nowhere?  Surely the Texan crowd the developer is targeting will want a few more frills than the ski area offers? Result - either a ghost town or a buy-out of the ski area?

Of course, it’s the lynx again. It’s always the lynx.

Only expansion I really campaign for down at Wolfie is Matchless.

I think the natural habitat for Lynx is the land adjacent to a ski area boundary.

As I understand it, this is against the development of the Village, not the expansion of the ski area per se.

Yes.

Yup. The ski area has nothing to do with this base development (which tells you a lot right there).

For those unaware, the ski area is pursuing an ambitious expansion- all related to skiing with no lodging, real estate, or even additional parking. The ski area expansion is generally favored, although there is some hesitation about the Matchless expansion encroaching into land currently permitted for elk hunting- land that is in a roadless area. However, none of the groups screaming about the base development monstrosity have lodged any complaints about the operation of the ski area. The ski area is family owned and pulled out of this real estate deal decades ago, which also is telling. In the eyes of the FS, both expansions are considered totally independently from one another.
