Question concerning the Denver traffic. I was thinking if we went to Steamboat, we could ski till about 2, leave at 2:30, and be to the Denver airport and turn car rental in with plenty of time to catch a 8:35 flight. Am I dreaming or is this feasible?
Not if the weather is good. Rabbit Ears Pass can be impassable when it's snowing as well as the drive through Berthold Pass. In good weather it's an easy three, three and a half hour drive to the airport.
Here's the ticket, and I've done this at least 50 times or more, if you are set on skiing Steamboat, which is a great skiing destination, fly direct into Steamboat/Hayden Airport. It's a fifteen minute ride into town from there. There is a shuttle, which is convenient but not cheap. Once you get into Town or the Resort, there is a very convenient free bus system that takes you anywhere you want to go in the area.
so, you will spend a little more on an Airline ticket but you will save money by not having to rent a car and more important, you won't have to worry about weather, driving or time restraints.
That's the best advice I can give you. Steamboat Resorts can book it all for you. Another tip, there is ski in ski out available but you can save a ton of money by staying downtown Steamboat and riding the bus to the slopes. It's a great time to be in Steamboat, good luck
