I am most likely staying there in March. Whats it like? Believe it or not I'm actually excited to stay there.

Who has had experiences staying there?

I stayed at the hostel last february for two weeks. It was good times. Sweet gameroom downstairs, foos, shuffleboard, pool table. Close to the lifts and beers. Poker night (mondays?) can't remember. Great vibe and history. Only thing that kinda sucked was i could hear the people upstairs from me stomping around all the time. all in all, its cool how they do things, i'm sure they are leaving a lot of money on the table.

Basic, no frills, noisy, very friendly atmosphere, walk to the Moose, lifts and the bus into town, if you're looking for fancy this isn't it, if you're there for the skiing this place is for you. Spent a week there three years ago I doubt that it's changed much. Cool place.

Wonderful. Spent a week there in 2/05 and had a terrific time. Yeah, it can be a little noisy, but I've stayed in places twice at loud at three times the price

Where is Hostel X and why does everyone here seem to know about it?

I stayed at the www.hostelx.com a few times. The place is awesome. Great location with easy walk to the lifts. It beats the bus ride in from town. Best plywood hotel room around. If you like quiet, I would recommend rooms 412, 413, 414 on the top floor. Its a hike up to the fourth floor. After staying a few times at the HostelX we moved up to the Village Center INN next to the old TRAM. This is the last year for Village Center INN. I still bring people over to show them the down stairs of the HostelX. Its like a museum with lots of history. Poker nights are great. They show real old ski movies. People come over from the more expensive hotels to play poker. hahah Everything is more expensive than the HostelX. The best part of the HostelX is you get to talk to other serious skiers and riders in front of a huge fire place and TV set. Many internationals stay there. You can play pool. You can store your skis down stairs without having them stolen. They have a boot dryer system in the corner near the waxing tables. If your staying at one of the other hotels you got to visit the downstairs of the HostelX.

Location: HostelX is next building skiers right of the Mangee Moose.

Hostel X is in Teton Village right at the base of the mountain at Jackson Hole.

Let's put it this way: I wouldn't bring the wife. But otherwise, hell for what you pay it's awesome. It was so cheap that we could afford a couple of guided excursions and lots of good meals and rounds of drinks with all the money we saved.

I stayed there with two friends. There were four bunk beds in the room. It's the only "hostel" I've stayed in. You don't have to bring your own linens or share a bathroom with other rooms which I believe is the case with hostels generally. I liked that there was a sink in the bedroom, not in the bathroom (shower and toilet). So I could make breakfast, brush teeth, etc. while roommates showered, etc. I bought a cheap plug in water boiler thing (looks kinda like a coffee pot) for the occassion to make oatmeal, instant coffee, Ramen. One of the employees lent us his car to go into town for groceries and growlers of Moose Drool! There are buses if you can't borrow a car.

Is there only 20-somethings in this place, or all types/ages? Its sounds like a great deal to be honest.

I took my two sons-in law, they are twenty something I'm fifty something. They loved it, it was a bit rustic for this old fart. The Snake River Lodge is more my speed.

Can anyone confirm the VCI is open this year? I actually thought last year was the last year. Stayed there and thought it was a great place. Am considering HostelX if I can swing a JH trip again this year.

Geez, looks pretty cool to me.

It says a 100 yard walk to the tram.......No tram this year. How much of a walk to a lift??

Plenty of restaurants near by (on foot)??

Definately looks like a CHEAP way to visit Jackson Hole!!! Wow. Cool.

Thanks for the post.

not far from the lifts

closest lodging to the mangy moose for food, beer, and music-stumbling distance

allows dogs so the pooch can ride teton pass with you

some of the only, if not the only, free parking in teton village

Before you commit to the HostelX you may want get a price at the Village Center INN which fills up fast. The nice thing about the HostelX is its almost slope side and they often have empty rooms. If you can get a Village Center INN room take it. If not try the HostelX as your second choice.

You're a sick individual. Before you go to Jackson Hole, you need to tone down your act. It's not a reality TV show and it's not like anywhere you have ever skied before. You could easily break your back for real.

And, if I remember correctly, uphill from the lifts.

(Disclaimer: I never stayed there, only walked past it on the way to work several years ago.)

I need to make sure they are not just college kids or I might be too tempted to join in the debauchery. Out of site out of mind you know how it is.

I have X-rays!
