Day of cat or heli skiing.

I'm heading out to Fernie the first week of March and would like to try a day of heli skiing or cat skiing. The only outfit I could find that offers a one day service is cat skiing with Fernie Wilderness adventures for $350.00 a day. Is there any heli operations that offer a one day service? Is 350.00 worth it for one day of cat skiing? How is Fernie Wilderness adventures terrain?

Thank you
Pasquale

You can try Snowwater....they do some sampler packages that include both but it would be in Nelson 3-4 hours from Fernie

Spent a week with them 4 years ago. Stayed at their lodge. Superb food! Snowed every day. We all had a great time. Would definately go back as they are reasonably priced compared to many others. However, we found an even better deal with Big Red Cats near Rossland. We're returning for our third year in February. Yes, it is worth it! Especially when you consider heli costs 3 times as much. And, I like skiing trees. Heli tends to take you higher to big open bowls.

We are going to Snowwater for a week of heli this year.....my wife said I keep talking about it all the time so I should just go and get if out of my system

Little does she know, I'll be talking about it even more afterward:

RK heli is up at Panorama and they do day trips. $350CDN is a pretty good average price for cat skiing. I've been to Island Lake and they have pretty decent terrain. I would assume that it's close to the same, maybe not quite as good.
If its your first time, a cat may be better. Cat's are a little slower, not quite as agro and they cat go regardless of weather.

Thanks for the input guys,

The only outfit that had the one day snowcat trip in the Fernie area is Fernie Wilderness Adventures, I could not find any heli operators that had a one day outing available. My 11 year old and I are booked for a full day. Next year I'm surly going back with my buddy for heli skiing this video convinced me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c_9yxQq3QU :

Thanks :
Pasquale

as mentioned RK Heliskiing at Panorama has one day trips plus a standby option if someone drops out or if the heli isn't full
FWA also has a similar standby setup for locals and tourists if they don't have a full cat...

Unfortunately I'm only going for 5 days and Panorama is 140 miles away that is over 2 hours each way that is a little much for me. My wife and daughter are not skiing that day they might want to use the van to get around since they are driving us the 15min to snowcat lodge in Ferine. Thanks for the input but I'll surly be back next year for Heli skiing

Thanks
Pasquale

Mike Wiegele's is now offering cat skiing. They offer mainly 3-7 day trips, but do have 1 day trips.www.wiegele.com. for more info.A bit far from Fernie,so maybe save it for when you hit the new resort at Revelstoke.
http://www.travel.bc.ca/activities/s...t-heli-skiing/ has links for tons of BC Cat Skiing operations.
