Flame war? Who needs a flame war, everyone knows Ski's critera are exclusively based on Bathroom Cleanliness, and I think that these rankings almost perfectly reflect this.
While their criteria differs greatly from mine and I my top 10 would be different, I could spend an extended amount at any of those picks and be happy.
Those are all great ski areas. Who cares about the rank because the one you're at is the one that's best.
I'm more than happy several great resorts I love are not on this list : . MRG, LL, SSV...

Didn't you get the memo? It's not about being "happy" and having fun. It's about proving your radness, and that is determined by how well you can diss the list.

top ten

Obviously a corporate/europen elite/Colorado feministic conspiracy.

NO donner ski ranch on list what a scam.
OK, an ounce of Maryjane is worth a pound of Vail.

Go back to Tejas you SPOREs.

"A Touch, a touch, I do confess..."

While you're right, my comment was probably motivated to some degree by that concept. Examine those picks and tell me their #1-10 based on their skiing. While I've had a good time at all of the mountains listed that I've been to. For pure skiing, there are a number that are omitted because of the lack of Apres Ski scene.

FWIW: I think DV gets a bad rap in the "core" crowd, I think the skiing at Deer Valley's excellent. But this list is dominated and ordered by the services provided, not by the pure quality of the skiing, and Ski magazine's pretty much focused on that off slope area. Ski and Skiing are run by the same company to divide skiers into two distinct market segments, and I understand that... my bathroom comment was intended more as a good natured jibe than a statement of how 133t I am.

Awesome, it will keep all the tourists away from the best mountain in the world, which everybody who skis knows is Snowbird. I can't believe Sun Valley is even on the list, they hardly get any powder.
I was thrilled that we aren't on it, I know that much. I hope the commercialism shown at all those places doesn't reach here any faster than it has so far. Fortunately, Fog is on our side here. There's no way they can throw dollars at that problem and "fix" us.
The list does not surprise me, its as it should be.
That list is freakin' awesome. No need for a flame war.

You're right--it comes out of the sky already groomed.

I thought it was the number of $$$ paid to SKI magazines advertising department....

Based on Adelph's criteria, Deer Valley would be perfect for a Craig family ski vacation. Papa Larry wouldn't have to spend time doing janitorial service and might stay out of trouble.

Ignore this post. Boo boo on my part.
I think it's entirely appropriate to rank ski areas by bathroom cleanliness. Thank you Ski Magazine.
Interesting list. I have finally reached a point in my life where I can ski anywhere I want. I regularly ski from New Mexico to BC, Canada. In the last 5 years I have not skied any of those areas, and don't intend to this year. I guess my priorities are a little different. There are certainly some good mountains included but I agree that any list that does not include Snowbird, which has some of the best terrain combined with the consistently best snow, has to be based on something that has nothing to do with actually skiing. Deer Valley being listed as #1 pretty much says it all.
What's ironic about this list with Deer Valley being #1 is this.......

Obviously DV wins because of it's so called Customer Service. Well, I skied there last March and I saw NO customer service!! The locker system down right sucked. And I asked an ambassador for directions to Ontario Bowl thinking he would ski us right to it. Wrong. He had attitude and basically blew us off!! And, I couldn't even get a spoon to eat my Turkey Chili because of the crowd in the lodge!! Obnoxious!!

But, I loved the skiing/layout terrain. Empire was awesome as was the tree skiing. It was a powder day and nothing was groomed.

I find this to be very ironic.

I won't be going, though. Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons will be next. And I will ski Snowbasin every opportunity I get!!!!

Deer Valley.....gag me with a spoon!

This sort of thing would never happen at Vail/Deer Valley!

..wait a minute...:

I think a large part of the problem here is that the OP didn't include the whole title of the article: Ski Mags Top Ten Resorts... to Buy Multi-Million Dollar Real Estate.

I don't agree on the gendered aspect of your (admittedly tongue-in-cheek) suggestions -- nothing "feministic" at all here. If anything, it's very patriarchal. The list reflects plain old corporate magazine business acumen. What do you expect from Bonnier Corp., who also bring you these lovelies (note Yachtbroker magazine :?? Long live non-corporate media!!

It's just a list. I find it funny that so much hysteria is generated from this every year, especially from the 'gnar' crowd. The wine & cheese folks are equally outraged by the Skiing mag list. The horror!
This is good - keep all the tourists on the Park City side, and leave Little Cottonwood alone. At Deer Valley they do everything for you but the skiing. For the rush, run the chutes at Snowbird - you'll never look back.
The gnar crowd really ought to shut up and tell everyone in earshot that this list is the list. I'm not gnar, but I'll be doing that for sure. The only sad thing is that Vail didn't rank higher. I really wish everyone on earth would just go to Vail.
