Anything else that might be good out of the bargain bin? Or do I have to bite the bullet and go over 5 bills for a pair of Kryptons?
If you look hard enough, you can still find some Dalbello Kryptons models and Tecnica Diablo Magnesiums from last season at reduced prices. I know the Krypton Rampage changed colors. The Krypton Cross has the same color pattern, but it might have a slight graphic change (I might be wrong on that). The Diablo Magnesiums changed color patterns. The only downside of finding last year's product is the limited sizing.
Basically the boot that you want will have to meet two criteria: it has to fit your foot and lower leg shapes and have the perfomance needs that you require. I don't own the Diablo Magn. nor the Falcon 10, but I know people who have. A friend who has the Diablo Magn. loves his because it fits, and it does everything that he requires out of a boot. A person who I work with skied well in his Falcon 10 boots only when he wasn't in pain. He tried to squeeze a 31.5 foot into a 29.5. He now skis in a 30.5 Nordica Speedmachine 14, and he skis well and doesn't whine about boot pain.
Bill, even though you ski 10-12 days a year, don't be afraid to spend extra money for a good fitting boot. Take the time to sit down at a shop and be fitted. If you must buy online, look at the Sierra Snowboard and Ski website or browse other sites. You might be able to find some of last year's product that may work for you.
