Ted Ligerty won the recent FIS slalom at Coronet Peak. The course was super steep and hard.

Apparently the course setter was belayed on a rope to set the top part of the course. Only 26 men of 91 starters completed.

Apparently Ted's skis were set at 0 base/ 6 side to cope with the conditions - the man must have knees of titanium and muscles made of kevlar fibres!!!

Is there any video of the race?

That's absolutely amazing.

I can't even imagine how a ski tuned that way would react. :

Thanks for the report, Andrew R.

Why? So he can prove he might know what he's talking about?

Me either. I was hoping we could see it! Must have been an incredible race with so few finishing.

I would like to see it too!

Particularly the course-setter on crampons and being belayed just to be able to set the gates. That's a YIKES if I've ever heard one.

I can say that the CP race last year was gnarly. I don't doupt that they had to lay the guy down with a rope. Its as tough a slalom run as you would ever find.

I'm always dubious about the value of a race where less than half of the competitors finished the race. I mean we send down forerunners, supposedly to make sure the course is safe. They all fall or ski out and then we hold the race anyway. What's with that???!!! Sure this was SL, who's gonna die on an SL course, etc. But I've seen these kind of numbers at other races as well. All the forerunners bite the dust and then the first 30 girls or boys eat it and the only ones who finish are the "slow pokes" bringing up the rear. Sure there are tactics involved, but the fact that ONE person (or 26 of 91 starters) finished does not mean the course was a satisfactory course for a race. Does anyone else feel this way?

Wow, just read the article again and noticed this:

today’s course in the Rocky Gully Arena was more suited to a larger cross section of the field than yesterday’s slalom where there was a high attrition rate.
Apparently 26 of 91 was a GOOD %!!!!!!

on pure ice it should be perfect and alot easier to ski(on ice) than most would think

When it gets pretty chattery and snow goes from grippy to slick to grippy again it goes to hell.
