Were they dont work is high speeds in changing snow conditions. You will never see a pro freeskier charging Ak line on anything like that, for the above average recreational skier they work great though. I still recommend them to people in my lesson to this day even though I dont think are my type of skis anymore.
Skis like this are tons of fun, but not the end all to be all like people on here (including me) thought they were 2 years ago.
BTW If I am stuck in southern Vermont I will take Stratton and its nice employes, high speed lifts and 25 PSIA lift tickets over Killington or Okemo anyday.
Strange how something ripped two years ago, but not now, and in two years "they're not your kind of skis anymore"? And.."they are not the end all to be all like people on here (including me) thought they were" Yeah, I know, that's what I said, some people here sppsrently haven't caught on yet.
I tried two versions of them - like you say, dismal ski for changing snow conditions, but probably good for marginal to fair skiers trying to learn. And I'd say moderate speeds is their max speed. They feel like Salomon Fury's - not much to report, but the hype was astounding for such a marginal ski.
If advertising hype isn't what you make decisions on, and you don't have too much invested in trying to believe they're good, then try a Volkl AC30, Nordica Top Fuel or Dynastar Legend 8000 (all available two years ago, btw) and report back, and we'll see who or what smells.
If there's a good, no, make that a decent, football game on, I'll sit out Stratton, thanks. Free tickets? Well, yeah, I'll probably still sit it out. Stratton over Killington? Wow. Take the Metrons and blend in.
I wonder what the Stratton posing choice will be this year - My vote - Volkl Tigershark - lots of hype, and bells and whistles. I tried a pair (Whistler closing demo day, April 07) and was underwhelmed, but it's "tech" will wow the posers.
