Accumulator, pack-rat, saver, whatever you want to call it, thats me. I dont like to throw anything out. Even when I can finally part with something I try to have it go somewhere that others may make use of it. Like clothes to the needy, old computer parts to those who have even older systems than myself. Etc.

I have all my BMX bikes and spare parts, even though I have not ridden in at least 10years.

I still have a white pair of Z. Cavaricci pants in my closet!

My GF, on ther other hand, throws everything out, gets it from her dad, she lives in a disposable world, even if they are $600 shoes. If they are not the most in-style items then they get tossed in her semiannual clean-up. She has thrown out clothing (which I promptly retrieve from the trash) that still have tags on them! I drill her (not in the good sense) about her wasteful ways and then usually take them to a good will box....she has issues.

Ummm, yes my (wife), I hesitate to say wife. As my friends say, You sure took a long time to get caught! Got married at 36. So, my significant other is also a minimalist. She is telling me I have to sell some gear before I buy some new. We are opposite on the gear scale. She only has one pair of boots and skis!

We have 6 pairs of skis between us 4 and 2 I have more!
2 small hydration pack,
lots of outerwear and
goggles----don't get me started on goggles---I must have 10 pairs---all from SAC
tons of poles
I have three---no 4 pairs of ski boots
one snowboard, and boots
one pair K2 inline skates
two cheap bikes

and a partridge in a pear tree

and I passed on those B3's at Sierra Jims---even tho I know I really do need them!

I try to keep about 3 skis in the active quiver. Its enough to have a tool ready for anything with out having too much junk.

My soft items like ski clothes and packs are pretty minimalist too. I tend to keep things until they wear out or they no longer fit. I have hiking boots that I used when I was 14 that I just replaced last year.

To my non-skiing, non-biking friends, I'm an accumulator. But compare to those here, I'm a minimalist!

I currently have 2 pairs of ski and 2 pair of boots. But that's only because I don't know what to do with the 1 pair of boot and ski that I KNOW I won't ever use. They're old... On the other hand, even if I get rid of them, I'll add another pair of ski soon. So the count won't change too much. My "target" is 2 pair of ski 1 pair of boot.

1 pair of cross country "set up" -- boots/skis. Will add a backcountry setup soon.

2 mountain bikes, 1 road bike, 1 cycle-cross. (I'm much more of a bike geek than a skiing nut)

2 backpack, 2 hydration pack, 2 helmets...

1 kayak.

My summer gears are in twos because I have two homes. But only 1 set of winter gear because I only ski out of one of my homes.

Thule Box for my Highlander

2 computers to check for latest snow conditions at all hours of the day and night....

Hmmm. I refuse to answer on the grounds that I might incriminate myself.

A minimalist is simply someone with too small a garage.

1 set of Boots (5 y/o, should last me forever)

A person should accumulate good friends, good gear and good times.

Ha Ha Ha

Ron used massive levels of peer pressure to get me into better threads last year.

I must say it was worth it !

You already have

I have one pair of skis Top Fuels and a pair of rock skis. So I am a minimalist, but only do to a lack of funds
post #23 of 26
I'd say I'm sort of a minimalist, or at least, not an acumulator.

Currently have 4 pairs of skis, but that will be up to 6 soon. However, they all have their own little purpose and niche in the quiver. No overlap.

1 pair boots

1 pair poles

1 ski jacket

2 pairs pants

1 pair gloves/ 1 pair mittens

1 rifle

1 shotgun

1 mt bike

3 pairs goggles

5 backpacks

A lot of people would say thats overkill, but we know its just having the right tool for the job right?
Er um......minimalist? After all, I gave away a pair of skis this spring

Seriously though, I have more stuff than I have room for, and am trying to turn over a new leaf and exercise restraint. Currently, I'm only accumulating dust.
Starting to become an accumulator now that I'm on salary College forced me to be a minimalist!
