So where is the 2004 Gathering?

OK,

Who is asleep at the switch. You guys were supposed to decide where the next Gathering was going to be while all out to dinner together. Come on tradition demands an answer. Those in attendance get to vote. It is one of the rights of passage. So where is it?????

I was at dinner.

Maybe I'm just lazy. And poor.

But, barring a winning lottery ticket, I would vote for my backyard again. Utah

Now, if my ship comes in....there are many excellent choices.

Powdigger, without you nobody was there to crack the whip.

We probably need a Gathering organizing group to evaluate what members are interested in (the group could start by initiating an open discussion in the Meeting Forum) and I can serve as a liaison with the Academy organizing committee.

Everyone I've heard from has wanted to keep the Academy and Gathering together, so there will be the issue of coordinating and ultimately making sure we can get authorization to hold the Academy at the resort, or at one nearby. The Academy also has some special requirements, but it seems reasonable to start the Gathering discussion by first determining the ideal setting then seeing how the Academy's issues may or may not be served by that setting.

Okay, Okay!! I'm jealous as hell that all you guys and gals were there without Lars. Actually, I'm very glad that it was such a success and so many people showed up. Although, i'm very curious about Gonzo? Is there really a Gonzo? Or, is he a Bear who has two different names to post by? An alter ego? Or, was he just so dissapointed that ole Lars wasn't going top be there that he decided not to come? The suspence is chilling. haha!!

Anyhow, Why not go back to Utah? From what i've heard, everything ran smoothly and the conditions in Utah will always be good enough in February to have it there. Cheap enough for everyone also. Colorado would be my other choice because of variety, location and there are alot of Bears already there.

On another note, I would like to congratulate my friend A.C. for keeping the flame burning here. And to everyone else who put the Acadamy together, nice job. Putting all the pictures to faces and faces to their posts has made this forum more enjoyable.

I'm raising my coffee cup to you all right now, here here!!

Like Inspector Gadget, the only way I could attend is if it was in my backyard. In my case Colorado. I have been terribly jealous of those that attended the academy and would love to go next year. Heck if it was in Summit County I could put up a few bears at our place. Hows that for a bribe?

It sounds like we need authorization to run the Academy at Jackson Hole.

Well lets see, a whole bunch of awesome mountains close to each other and less than an hour from the airport, lodging for 2 people at $220 a WEEK, wonderful, courteous mountain employees, I'd return to Utah in a New York City minute!

Matteo, in the Meet on the Hill Planning, I reccomended Italy. For us New Englanders, a week there is cheaper than a NE 3 day holiday weekend.
So you can play host!

Hopefully all the crap that is going to go on in the next few weeks will be over by next Winter. Otherwise, traveling abroad for us Americans isn't going to be comfortable. For that reason alone, I would vote for a place here in the States.

I have some friends who skied Italy a few years ago and loved it. I've heard the Dolomites are beautiful.

I said it at the gathering, and I'll say it again...

2004 Gathering in Haines, Alaska! Common, we all know there will be snow there, and whoa, the views, fresh tracks, need I continue?

I vote for:

1) Jackson Hole, Targee area
2) Whistler/Blackcomb
3) Tahoe
4) Ootah - cause its cheap

Sorry Matteo, alas no funding for a ticket. But perhaps one of the more well heeled bears will pitch in! You make it here you have a bed ready and waiting.

So that we can have this entire discussion in one place, please add your venue arguments to the thread in The Meet-On-Hill Forum (click here).

It would be great if those who posted good arguments above to repost them over there. Thanks!

...and please take this poll to help establish venue selection priorities:

Hey - we need a southern hemisphere 2003 gathering first!
Lisamarie, I did not see your posts...
If you're coming this way I'll be pleased to play host.
Lars, Dolomites are really beautiful, the scenery is spectacular, especially at sunset, when the so called "enrosadira" takes places (all the mountains become pink, because of the sunlight).
Check also these (old, very old) images
Val mezdi, 1994
I've been skiing there since I was 13, and stopped going there in 1997 (budget constraints)...
Anyway, as said in another, related, thread, since I can't be sure to partecipate in the 2004 gathering (and/or academy), I shall abstain from voting

Next year's main gathering will be at Milton Keynes. This was decided in a meeting yesterday morning with all the bears who were still in SLC, or to be more precise, me and Corbet in Altaskier's house.
