Toasted Twinkies (not a joke)

Hostess Twinkies. We all know them from our youth.

As a joke I put one on a hot dog stick and toasted it over a camp fire, much the same as is done with a marshmallow. I was careful to make the outside crisp but not to scorch it. Don't burn. It should have no carbon on it. It completely changed the flavor of the thing. It was a great treat. Others tried it with similar results. Our camping crew now regularly roasts Twinkies.

Try it. You might like it. I'm not kidding.

Destined to replace the s'more in your anthology.

I've had a fried Twinkie before, and it too was much better than a regular Twinkie. Not good enough to ever eat another one, but it wasn't bad.

Fried Twinkie!!! Talk about a heart attack special. I can feel my arteries hardening as I think about it.

Doesn't even compare to a deep fried Mars bar (a Scottish fave)!

Strawberry twizzlers rolled in cayenne pepper!

For some reason this thread popped up in another search I was doing and I had to laugh.

Eight years later and it's still the truth.  Mmmmm...

@SkiMangoJazz,

Whoah wait a minute.

How do you do that?

Warm the twizzlers in a microwave, pour out the cayenne on wax paper,

then roll the twizzlers?

Tell me it isn't so.

That was in 2007, I don't remember, but I definitely didn't heat them.  Just a dry rub I'd guess.

I ignored the date just to be annoying.

I also like cracked pepper on melon.  Try it, it's awesome.

You still don't have a picture of a toasted Twinkie?

Here is a stock image from a random source.

I find that holding it over coals and slowly turning it works better.

Tried it. Didn't like it.

Overcooked.  Most definitely.

Gallant try, though!

Those things are amazing, but I hear that that the Scottish Mars bars are more like what we in the States know as a Snicker's Almond. That's what I make; goes great with vanilla ice cream.

Britsh Mars Bars are what you call a Milky Way I think (Snickers without the nuts).  Milky Way here is your 3 Musketeers.  Scottish chip shop cuisine also includes the deep fried Starburst and Pizza.

How about this for a "heart attack special"...deep fried butter (and this is not a joke!)

Texas State Fair starts fairly soon; you can find pretty much anything fried.

More ridiculousness from other states, too.

Fried twinkies !   I can't stop laughing.

:rotflmao::rotflmao:

Try deep fried corn dogs - big hit at our county fair.

Twinkies' expiration date is optional LOL  You could toast and eat a twinkie that is older than this thread.

Just kidding of course..

Twinkies older than this thread should be good.

I hear they last 10 years.

~ two and a half years late but what the heck...

The Resolution of Hostess:

You may have heard that Hostess Bakery plants shut down due to a workers' strike. But you may not have heard how It was split up.
The State Department hired all the Twinkies, the Secret Service hired all the HoHos, the generals are sleeping with the Cupcakes and the voters sent all the
Ding Dongs to Congress.
