Le Tour - Page 4

Well, I say Levi wins the TT and Contador stays ahead of Evans. I'd really like to see Levi pull out a huge win and take yellow, but I realize that's a lot to ask.

Go Levi! GO GO GO!

Here are a few quotes for the Either/Or thread on July 6th:

Comprex, have you changed your mind on this one?

So what do you guys think? Thirty one seconds separating the top three. Will they battle it out tomorrow or just coast home in their present positions?

Levi says no, is he posturing? Will he change his mind? What about Cadel Evans?

I think it's over. As far as I know, the time bonus is only 20 seconds and I don't see Evans beating Zabel, Hunter (if Barloworld starts tomorrow), Boonen, Stegmans, etc... On top of that, there might not even be a sprint tomorrow, there is talk of a riders protest on the finish line.

Anyway, today's stage was amazing! MY heart rate was about 150bpm when they were coming in to the time checks and the finish line. Well, time to go for a ride now.

It's over. Nothing left but the doping controls, and Disco always tests well.

Personally, I'd pay much more attention to the tour if everybody was wasted on smack. That would be entertainment.

bumpfreaq, I'm staying by that.

CE needs 23 seconds; the finisher time bonus is only 20, the organizers will not want major wreckage at the finish, and Disco can protect the jersey better than any other team still in it.

A break at 40km from start followed by CSC or CdE sending their strong TT guys up the road at 60km to go.

I just mean that if it's a race then they should race. The standings aren't decided until they do the final lap of the Champs Elysees, right? So it always irks me a bit when the riders decide... tradition, yes I know... not to race on the final stage.

Just like F1. It's supposed to be the biggest and baddest of motor sports but every year the rule makers get together to figure out how to make the cars go slower. I guess it would interest me more to see how fast men can make cars go around a circuit, period. Instead we get to see how fast they can go within the limits of the rules.

If you've got one hundred bike riders riding from here to there but they're not trying to out perform each other........ it's a very nice parade.

Attacks happen on the final day, but there is no way Cadel's team will let Levi go up the road and Discovery will shut down any breakaway that Evans tries to join. The top places will probably not attack because they know it won't work. It's not a parade, there will be a race for the stage win. Probably a field sprint but maybe a breakaway.

Do you think that the stage would play out the same way if it was the second to last? Of course you're right, there will be a battle for the stage win and we've seen the green jersey decided on the final stage before. I just can't see the third place rider who's eight seconds behind the second place rider stating that he will not make any effort to close that gap on any stage but the last.

I don't think any of the GC guys can get in a move on any flat stage. They only try to drop each other on the big mountains. An effort to gain time on a flat stage isn't worth the effort, except rare cases when someone gets caught out due to a split in the pack due to a crash and/or side winds. I suppose tradition might prevent racers from taking advantage of such an opportunity, should it present itself, on the last day.

I'm with you though, if Levi and Cadel don't both have an idea in the back of their heads for a late solo break, they shouldn't be in the race.
