Requiring people to take lessons? Is that a joke?
Ok, I really try and reign in my sarcasm and antagonistic replies on this site, but this I have to say:
America is moving farther and farther towards being one giant padded room. Parents want to make sure every playground is incapable of skinning their child's knee, people want roads overbuilt to the point they don't even have to pay attention while driving. People want the corporations to have responsibility for the individual's stupidity. People that like to engage in behavior that is deemed "risky" (really anything that isn't perfectly safe) are called crazy and said to not value their lives, however calculated their actions are.
Personally, when I have kids, I hope they skin their knees, bump their heads, hell maybe even break an arm or two. Thats life. It will teach them to be aware of the consequences of their actions, yet not paralyzed with fear of them. It will also make them value the vivid expeiriances of life that much more.
It is very unfortunate that these people lost a member of their family for no real reason. However, thats life. Death is a part of it. This stuff happens. It will continue to happen even if people are required to take lessons, wear 50lbs of protective padding, and only slopes below 20 degrees. The only difference is, it would be a lot less fun.
Doing it yourself is an American ideal, its how this country was formed.
Whatever, I'm done.
