If you stay at Posada de Farellones, don't pay their web site asking price. If you're an American, they'll do the customary (through out Chile and Argentina) "screw the American" thing and try to charge you about 40% more than they charge locals. They think that, because we have more than they have, we owe them the difference. This is true in shops also. It isn't always so but is quite common. Last year Posada de Farellones was asking $237 per night on their web site and I noticed that a travel agency in Satiago was showing $190 per night for Posada de Farellones. I requested a reservation and they didn't answere me. My travel agent, Holly at Southamericaski.com got it for me for $200. At La Parva, they wouldn't sell me a senior ticket because I wasn't "Chileno" and the girl at the window was a real snot. They did sell me a senior ticket at El Colorado and were quite cordial about it. Also, a combination ticket can be purchased for the equivalent of $10 that will allow you to ski all three areas unless, of course, you get stuck with the "screw the American" custom; in which case it is $15 for each additional area. Also be advised that you're going to be down there during prime time and prices are the highest at the ski area hotels. I used to go there the first week in Sept after the last two weeks of August somewhere else in Chile or Argentina but I can't stand those people any more so I'm going to New Zealand from now on unless NZ is having a really bad year and SA is having a really good one. By the way, the best way to deal with those "airport pirates" who will grab your luggage is to just say, "no tip". Also, if you use an ATM down there, draw out the maximum because it will cost you $5 every time you use one. Some restaurants will have a big "VISA" sign in the window and then, when you try to pay with the card, they will tell you that it's "broken right now" so you'll have to pay with cash unless you show them an empty wallet and then they'll go and make a phone call and accept the card. That happened to me in two different places and also happened to Holly. They just have the sign in the window to sucker you in.
