EpicSki.com competition

A compliment to EpicSki! While searching on-line the other day, I came across an on-line competitor to EpicSki, (it's probably not necessary to disclose their name), and I was simply appalled, yes even shocked, at the vulgarity and adolescent, should I dare say, almost "thuggish" language commonly used. And believe me, although I am 51, I am no prude. That simple experience enhances EpicSki's credibility and professionalism ... at least with me, and for that I take my hat off to you all! Thanks!

mtbakersnow, glad you enjoy it here!

You are indeed correct! Many and most Epicons are quite a polished sort; polite and professional, quick to respond to questions on gear, conditions, technique and travel. You name it.

Then there are the rest of us.

I agree with you, Paula's Ski Lovers is a pit of filth and debauchery.

I must say, for the record, that the way that TGR has dealt with the PMTS cultists -- namely, subjecting them to abject ridicule -- has been far more effective than Epic's approach. And far more entertaining, to boot.

I prefer not to think of the other forums as competition, but instead as alternate play grounds. Epic is my home, and for sure where my heart is, but I do tend to dabble a bit on other forums, especially The Ski Diva. I'm sure that is the forum to which you're referring

So they did give you a nice 'Welcome Jong' ......

.....then?

I haven't got a chance to meet or ski with folks from here yet but already a few times with 'competitors' from both sides of the pond. Very accomplished skiers - to say the least - and a great bunch to hang out with, at least all the ones I met so far. I had tons of fun and are already looking forward to the next hook-up to be verbally bashed. Helps me staying young and upbeat.

Get over it and try also, you'll be rewarded.

I hang out at both sites and love them both for slightly different reasons.

This is a great site as well, but if you don't think it ever get's rough around these parts, just hang out some more.

For me the biggest differences are the following:

Over there - More off-piste skiing, more of the actual ski bum culture, more fat skis, more of people who's only reason to be alive is skiing/mountaineering and therefore a year-round pursuit, more technical info on descending big scary/dangerous lines, more of "how can I be safe in the backcountry?", more of "how can I avoid/survie avalanches?", more trip reports of climbing/skiing 14'rs w/awesome pics/vids.

Over here - More on-piste skiing, alot of serious skiers, but more of a serious hobby as opposed to an actual lifestyle, more bump/racing oriented, more skinny skis (although that's changing rapidly), more technical info on skiing groomers/courses, more of the attitude "it's summer...I'm out of here!", more of "how can I ski the zipperline better?", more of "how can I survive passing gapers on blue runs at 60mph?".

I love both, as I'm inspired by all of it.

I highly doubt the "competitor" he's referring to is TGR. Sounds more like newschoolers to me.

I hope you're rite. If that's the case, then I completely concur with the OP...Even I can't stand newschoolers.

what is this TGR place that people speak of????!?!??!
An evil place you speaks of lad, an evil, vile and wicked place.

A place of darkness where the ring is hidden, the ring with Elven runes.

Where George Bush is known to haunt and lurk so the legends say.

Only, very very special people get to be Ski Divas, PJ.

FWIW, it's a big internet out there. I think there's room for us all.

certifiable

found quote:

"Epic is taking control with and through three of the best known ways to man, one is in the form of dictatorship, control the people through fear, and or the "Soviet Epic" control and tell people how to think or Orwells 1984, change the truth, and don't let it in."

an instant classic for too many reasons, all pathetic and laughable.

no but it would be funny if he did. The maggots would eat him alive.

I dare anyone to go over there and try to convince the maggots that your way off skiing (in this case PMTS) is better than theirs.

Vocalskier1 are you up for the challenge?
