Calgary gear shops?

Apologies if this is not the correct forum.

Heading out to Kicking Horse on Saturday but planning a stop in Calgary before we set off to buy a load of gear - jackets, pants, helmets, gloves... Does anyone know a good place to go for good gear at low prices?

Many thanks in advance

Johnny,

Try Abominable Ski on Crowchild Trail and ask for Billy. He's always done right by me.

Cheers

look at the bottom of the page. I've used the snow shack and they are good.

Stop past the Mountain Equipment Co-Op in downtown Calgary. It's always fun to walk through and does have a bit of everything. You do have to buy a lifetime membership to shop there (for the grand total of $5 Canadian). Don't have to join to browse your way through.

For outergear go to MEC, you will always get a good price. Try the Hostel shop as well, they have real sales there on name brand stuff like sierra designs, north face and Marmot. If you want hard goods go to sport check at market mall. Helmets, skis, bindings etc., but know what you want as the staff are a little underknowledged.
cheers,
and good shopping

Johnny Boy,

I just spent a week skiing at Kicking Horse and had a great time. Be prepared for a little hiking for the most fresh snow and a long run down the the bottom. If you stop in Banff look at Mountain Magic www.mountainmagic.com. A friend just ordered ski's, poles and avalanche gear. He had great service and saved a bunch of money with the US$/C$ exchange rate.

For a really nice meal try out Cedar House. It is a little difficult to find and so get directions. http://www.CedarHouseCafe.com/ .
Also, try The Kicking Horse Grill www.kickinghorsegrill.com.

Most important, the government liquor store closes at 6pm, but the Mad Trapper sells beer and wine all evening. Also, check out the peelers on fresh meat mondays for a bit of the local scenery

Have a great trip!

Johnny Boy , a little thing to know about MEC , some of the pants they sell won't fit over most alpine ski boots so take your boots along to try. Abominable is ok like mentioned , another shop close by is Ski West on 14 st NW and The Ski Cellar about 10 blocks south on 17 ave. sw (just west of 14 st) has a great selection of ski clothes . Another thing to remember is buying in Calgary will save you a bunch of money , Banff tends to be inflated on prices.

Screw MEC and hit a real ski shop. The Ski Cellar on 17th ave is the best shop in Calgary in my opinion, and Mountain Bike City is only another 5 minutes to the west, and it's an awsome shop...

between those two you'll find everything you need, including good deals...Check out their sites if you want:Ski Cellar

Mountain Bike City
