Does anybody knows the Salomon Falcon boots width (for mondo size 26) of the following models - Falcon X2 Lab, Falcon Race, Falcon 10
post #2 of 14
IIRC is is a fairly narrow fit in the 100mm range.

Narrow fit. Falcon Race =120 flex, Falcon 10 = 110 Flex, if you want a boot with a narrow heel pocket, but a little wider in the forefoot look at the 07/08 Pro Impact.

I've got the Falcon 10. It's the same thing as the Falcon Race but with a softer flex. 98mm forefoot, low instep, tight heel, slim liner, softish flex, tons of lateral response, best snow feel of anything i've ever used, plugs included... Of course, the X2 is a full-on plug, so its only related in name and outside styling. I've heard of people having problems with the calf being too small, but I've got pretty large calves and they fit fine. Also, make sure you try more than just the size that you measure because the shell is so anatomically designed that it's easier to get the forefoot and heel right and grind the toes than it is to get the legth right and have it be squeezing in the wrong spots. I measure a 26.5 on one foot and a 27 on the other, and ended up in a 25 even though the 26 had a half finger shell fit.

your 25 is even softer.

falcon race= 120
falcon 10 = 110 (except sizes below 26 = 100)

we're on the same boot. I crank mine with boosters... and LOVE them.

edit: takecontrol is spot-on about the forefoot dimensions. 98mm for a 25.

I have heard that Falcon's shell is very thin and there is not much material to be grinded - incorrect? I got almost the same foot length (26.3mm) and I guess that mondo 26 could fit very well - half finger shell fit seems quite tight.

half a finger could be tight. I'm happy with my one finger. check it out anyway. The falcon liner is waaay thin, imo.

the shell is thin too, and yes, not a lot of room to be ground. But .5-1mm would be safe and may be enough. Just take out the liner and try it on.

I am guessing 95mm and 98mm respectively?

So do you think that the Falcon Race is 95mm width and the Falcon 10 is 98mm?
It is very difficult to find such information. Our local representative does not know it. USA Salomon web site contact haven't answered.
I don't think that the flex difference between Race (120) and 10 (110) is too big and need to know the width difference - if any.

Don't quote me but I think the Slab plug is 95 and the two you are talking about are both 98mm? I do not have any in stock at the moment to measure for you.

The Falcon Race, 10, 9, and Gun are all 98mm. The race is the exact same boot as the 10 but with a stiffer shell- exact same liner, same buckles, same boot board, etc. They're so close that most shops won't carry both. In fact, even the womens' Instinct 9 and Scarlet are the same lower shell as the Falcon.

I ground a ton of material away from the toe- 2mm in spots. I'm pretty sure I could go a little further, but I'm satisfied. If length is really a problem, we blew out a pair of 26s a full size and had no troubles with warping like we sometimes had on tecnicas. The thinnest spots are around the instep, since the new spaceframe uses varying thicknesses of pastic rather than the speed-holes of old. Its not really a spot that I've ever seen ground besides to make the boot a little easier to get into, though.

the X2 is the plug (real race) boot that is 95mm, very thick plastic, and grindable. (and doesn't hold a punch very well or long)

all the other falcons (race,10,9, etc) are 98mm, normal plastic thickness, and can be worked on just fine.

I´m afraid it´s correct, at least in the Race and lower models. The 06/07 catalog shows the shell thickness between 7 and 3 mm. As you might know the philosophy behind is "second skin shell" and the skin is always fairly thin - unless you´re a hippo or elephant .
And yes, the width is 98 mm. I overlooked it in the catalog when you asked in our domestic phorum.
The X2 shell must be different to allow the necessary grinding.

got to concur, 98mm for the race , 10 , 9 etc in size 26 95mm for the X2, remember the shell width will increase or decrease by a factor of approx 3.33% as you go up or down in sizes from the core size of 26

I am waiting to hear back from Head re their boots for next season, the info i was sent was based on a core size of 27???? this would make the raptors 3mm narrower than the respective dobermann or similar....me thinks it is a typo or the marketing dept is trying to mess with my mind
