Found this on another site. Recreational use only. Wouldn't want to base college admissions on it! Smart or Stoopid?

(28 compared to average 17.1, btw. +63.4%. Think I blew the question on rap singers : )

Yeah the rap question stumped me too. I got 26. I ran out of time on one of them I knew, I guess I'm kinda slow.

Actually I would like to believe 17.1 is average because I only got 20. I know where Carlsberg is from and I choked on a few others, but...

Every active member of Epicski is smart above average and the folks who post their scores here might be even smarter than the average bear.

Clerical speed is not my forte, I missed the alphabet question. In other words, I'm a little bit stupid. That MarkXS guy can't even spell stupid, what a doofus. Probably took the quiz 5 times before getting 28 write.

We must all be from Lake Woebegone. We can change the name of the site to Mensaski.

"Plato once said, 'It's cool to be smart.'" Hmmm.
27 here.

I cheated, though. My browser was hiding the buttons to make selections and I was too stupid to figure it out and scroll down a bit, so I got a preview. I then had to start over.

Yeah, he grew up during the 60's and then opened a Retreat on 73rd St. Right across from Lisamarie's old apartment. ::

True dat!
21, but I don't give a hoot about US presidents, Elvis, Rap, or come to think of it, most of the stuff on this test, and I realized a wrong link right as I was doing it.
Hey if you get 17, your just stoopid, which is better than being stupid I guess.

Yea that was a little out there - a weak attempt at sophisticated humor.
At the end of the test it said that Plato said that "it was cool to be smart". There is no way in hell he said that because the word cool used as slang was popularized in THE 60'S. I was responding to Posaune's post where he made a vague reference to the quote's questionable authenticity. My following comment was self-deprecating sarcasm suggesting I am so STOOPID that I thought Plato was the cartoon character Pluto. I may be a country bumpkin way out here in Bugtussle but I know as well as anybody that Plato was the ancient Greek philosopher who posed the query "If a bear schitz in the woods, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?" I know - I'm kind of a smarta$$. But as an old girlfriend of mine used to say whenever I accused her of being one - "well, It's better than being a dumba$$"

27...thats a weird test. The time makes it actually alittle tough
post #22 of 28
27- thought I did ok, but apparently so did almost everyone else. I think that means we're all average.

Earlier than that. The word "cool" was used in the musical West Side Story which was written in the early to mid 50's. I heard an interview when NPR did a 50th anniversary retrospective and the person being interviewed (I don't remember who, but they were part of its creation) maintained that "cool" was the only current slang used in the entire show. They made up all the rest for the play because they were afraid that if they used contemporary words they would be out of style by the time the musical hit Broadway. "Cool" had been around long enough that they felt it was impervious to becoming old hat. They were right.

Maybe that IS a quote from Plato. Or maybe Pluto.

4czn, FWIW... I got both of your references right off the bat, before you explained. Does that replace the points I lost for not knowing a Mitsubishi from a Nissan, or Biggie Smalls from Tupac?? :

2 points for DKN

I'm giving you two of my points - I pretty much rely on being good with my hands anyway!

4czn's score is now 20.
