Red Sox 2007 Juggernaut?

Even tho I finally saw a flag fly over Fenway live I still always try to find reasons to doubt my hometown team....hearing my dad still talk about "48 and 49", Lonborg having to go on 2 days rest in "67, losing the greatest world series ever in "75, battling all the way back in "78 to lose to bucky freakin' dent, we won't even talk about "86..... Roger's meltdown in "90 and should Pedro have come out in "03.....

Until 67 you could go to Fenway park and pick a seat - any seat. I was telling SMJ I vividly recall going to games as a kid - nobody there. Talk about suffering, you don't know the half of it....

I am finding it hard to find anything negative about this team. They haven't even started to hit yet and this pitching top to bottom is ridiculous. About 4 more pitchers in the minors that the evil empire would have in their starting rotation...did I say deep?

Of course bad luck and injuries can always strike....but this club is so deep and so soundly built to win I find it hard to envison anything more than a short losing streak. Can this pitching loose 5 games in a row?

I dunno.....sure been fun so far!!

Go sawx.

Comments?

and how bout dem brewers?

a very solid team, better than '04 imho, though crisp ain't what damon brought to the plate. pitching is way solid (to understate) and they're gonna pound the ball like always.

think back one year, though, to remember how a season can unravel quickly.

let's wait til, say, august, though, before we start tossing "juggernaut" around. and remember the mariners of a few years ago, who won, what, 120 games, just to lay down in the first round of playoffs.

i agree, though: i'll gladly take this team. if they stay healthy, gonna be tough to reel them in; that pitching staff is just not going to allow many losing streaks.

countin' my eggs when the chicken is on the table

they are awesome right now. Any weaknesses are masked by great starting pitching. One thing about 04 none of their starters got an injury.

Luckily they even have Lester coming back too for the 5th starter (although he had cancer - not sure how much we should expect).

Now that they're out of the Rocket sweepstakes all the more cash to spend on a free agent or two for the deadline. Sitting pretty sweet for May whatever

aside from a forearm cramp in his last AAA start, word is he's looking good, with velocity and location. i have never been a julian tavarez fan - default knucklehead - and will be happy to see the lefty move him out of the rotation.

now if schilling would learn to just STFU and do what he does best: pitch.

Last year's team was flawed and overachieved in the first half, and came back to reality in the second half- I dont think this year's team will do the same- the pitching has been there unlike last year (especially the bullpen) but injuries can change everything. At least Tavarez is showing to be a capable #5 starter- hes gone up against aces all year and the Sox have done fine with him in there. When Lester comes back, we can move Tavarez back to the pen and have some insurance.

It would be interesting to see someone, ANYONE, win the AL East other than the Yankees.

How many years is it... 10, 11?

Edit: sorry, 11 of the last 13, and the last nine straight.

Go Sox!

james loves to sing the division song Very Much.

At least Ryan has the sense to tell the other Chowds (the same ones who were making jokes about the Yankees at this time last year) to cool it until they actually win the division.

dear yankee fans

no after-the-fact stuff.

is picking up clemens for that money (which could go elsewhere) the right thing? is he the answer?

i don't see it working out the way y'all want it to.

he may have something in the tank but to put those kinds of resources into a guy who's basically a set-up man (albeit a starter)...well, we'll see, and i may be damn wrong, but imho this is the move that gets cashman looking for work elsewhere.

the sox wanted him too, but later and for significantly less. i think clemens' team of reps pretty much played cashman (and benefitted from tremendous timing).

if i'm wrong, you'll hear it from me loud and clear.

yankee fans, please chime in.

It's a move that will, short-term, increase the money floodiing into Yankee coffers, but its more of the same strategy -- over-the-hill superstars -- that's killing us. I would blame Cashman, but I still think he's just a puppet for the man upstairs.

After having just spent 5 days in Boston, and having the pleasure of touring Fenway (no home games while I was there), I must applaud the folks who are the most avid baseball fans that I have ever seen. I live in the Bay area and the Giants are my team, that being said there is no comparison with the Socks enthusiasm that reins in and around Boston. In fact driving thru Vermont, New Hampshire and everywhere north of NY city, the Socks are on everybodies mind. In every restaurant and bar the Socks are either on the tube live or replays of classic games are being viewed. I only wish that my town had such a longing and love for the team. I have been an avid baseball fan now for 50 years and congratulate you Boston fans!

P.S. Glad you're in the "other" league.

Giants are coming to Fenway next month! First time since the '12 WS I think (we won that one ... ahh yes I remember it well . It MIGHT be that Barry breaks the record here also - imagine the irony there since he hates Boston.
I'll be at the game on the 17th of June. Doubt they'll let Bonds break the record on the road.

Sox do look great this year, and great chemistry. Who wants to buy a Julian Tavarez petting doll?

But any team is a hamstring (or two) away from mediocrity.

When at Fenway I was totally suprised that so many were excited about an "interleague" game. I guess the intrigue about Barry is more than I had imagined. I personally don't like "interleague" play. Whether Barry is there or not?:

the thing I do like about it is to see teams we don't normally see. Other than that the NL has been exposed the past several years as AAA+ level vs the AL so yeah it does get old

it is a loooong season, but a win in April counts the same as in September. I am a Yankees fan but I looove this rivalry.

SAWX win!!!!!!!!!:

My only concern is, and history shows this, that when the Sox's start the season strong, they die in the end. Their best seasons seem to come when they get beat up prior to the all-star break.

Nice jinx... though that was an impressive comeback yesterday.
I chalk that one up to the Os manager. 3 hit shutout, 91 pitches?! Leave the guy in there!

Amazing - turned it off in the 8th to go do some mother's day chores to make the wife happy and couldn't believe the finish when I saw the highlights.
That one goes down as an O's loss, not really a Sox win.
counts as a W either way

Give the Sox credit too for not giving up and mailing it in - they're winners!
This week will be a great test for the Sox's, we've got 4 games against Detroit and a weekend series against Atlanta, all three teams are in first place in their respective divisions. Here we go, we'll know if we are for real after this.

...oh yeah, then we play the evil empire in NY at the start of next week. This will be one hell of a test.

Although I missed it last night (playing in my oldman baseball league, 0-2 with a run and SB) Daisuke dominant with a CG giving up 1 run - they're still rollin against the second best record team ... Wakefield tonight.

Yankees 8 1/2 back....

No worse than a split with the bengals(good club)

willy mo in left tonight should be must see tv

I wonder if roger is trying to change his mind

3 of 4 from the AL champs is pretty good. Still looking good. Okie Dokie is pitching out his butt - closed for Papelbon in the second game.

At this rate, by the allstar break the Yanks might be looking to dump some salary, maybe the Sox can pick up a few more bats ....
So we've spotted you a ten-game lead... don't blow it like last year.
oh ... the Yankees lost again. Huh, the Sox won again ...

SSDD ... 11 games

football

pair of football games (13-3, 0-14)at the fens yesterday......I think the taunting the fenway faithful did in game 1 (mock tomahawk chops)might have fired up the opponent a bit huh?

that wasn't a good idea doing that to a solid team I guess

sawx try for another series win today and then off to the bronx:

I'll be there with my 86 yo mom and my SO.

Pitching matchup is certainly in Atlanta's favor, but ---- we'll see what Thunder and Lightning do! (not to mention the heavy winds throughout the rest of the batting order.)
