Thanks all for the positive vibes and input.
Mom's in depression and has been agonizing and not sleeping over what she could have done different and of course the trauma. I think nothing, There was traffic to her left and all she could do was react and I believe try to turn our kid in the passenger seat away from the other vehicle in the flash of a moment she had to react. Apparently, the lady was immediately following another vehicle that made the turn and I think blocked visibility for her and from my wife as she was making the turn and should have yielded.
She really misses her Bluaru. She loved it and was confident in all kinds of conditions. We've towed our camping/utility trailer with plenty of stuff with it and others we've had with little problem and outside of occasional 'lags' when trying to pass quickly, it has had enough power for daily mountain driving on and off road. I have yet to find a better option that meets our criteria than another Subaru. I love the Euro cars but on balance they aren't smart since the maintenance costs could get pricey and there are limited options in our non-metro area.
The adjuster should be there tomorrow and we'll find out where we are heading with that mess and how much I have to pony up to either get a comparable replacement or a new one which we're liking at the moment.
The other driver is still very shaken as well and has contacted my wife to see how she's doing and wanted to make sure we secured a rental via the insurance company.
I meant to include that lately we had been considering a pop-up trailer that was light and small enough to be towed behind the Subaru. I wasn't in love with the idea and started wondering about the 3.6, but we wish to maximize fuel economy and a small pop-up would work for us. I have been hoping for a hybrid Subaru to finally get to market, but won't be in our time frame.
