A few days late, but...

Jeter's HR against Schilling is worth watching... again and again. Everybody at Fenway up on their feet, clapping and screaming for the K, and then: < crickets >

It's all part of the plan. Let the Yankees catch up and go ahead. Get their confidence up only to crush their spirit when the wild card team makes it to the WS and wins - again.

Sox have 2 runs on AJ Burnett and Lester is mowing 'em down after a shaky first inning. 2-1 in the 6th. Yankees are destroying Baltimore...yawn. Let's see how it goes when they have to play the Angels in a short series

Good stuff.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter because unless the sky truly falls, Boston is in the playoffs. But coming back from 14.5 down is very cool.

Which team does the AL East champion play if the Indians and Angels finish with the same record?

Not sure...they probably look first to the head to head records.

Murray Invokes 1978

“The mood is suicidal,” a fan from Maine said in an e-mail message yesterday. “The Yanks are going to win the division.”

Another Maine fan wrote: “I am in a bad mood, I’m tired and I’m angry. Too long a season, too many series with the Yankees, too much trick or treat with these Red Sox.”

A woman from Boston said there was “lots and lots of disappointment,” adding: “Something happened to this team in the last two weeks. It’s almost like they don’t want to win.”

A Boston lawyer said he listened to Red Sox games and asked: “Why am I doing this? This is a waste of time. I know the Sox will blow it at the end and the Yanks will win. And every night lately that premonition comes true.”

He added, “There truly is a foreboding sense that this is the arrival of the inevitable collapse and that they are gagging like they did in ’78.”

you guys are funny when you're giddy

but not as funny as the murray chass and his correspondents show, providing proof that moronism can find its way north from the bronx.

with all this talk about 1978 : you'd think the yankees had just gone up 3-0 in a best-of-seven series.

but hey, party on.

enjoying it while it lasts

Two weeks from now, who knows which team will have the momentum... we may be calling for A-Rod's head on a platter. Again.

But my money's on the Yankees.

Cliches, like stereotypes, often become so because they are accurate.

13th straight playoff appearance

Glad we're in and all that, but it's kinda lame that the only difference between the wild card and winning the division is one extra home game. After 160 games, the team with the best record should be better rewarded.

I'm not sure home-team advantage is that big a deal, especially when the Yankees and Red Sox bring along their own fans to away games.

Doesn't the NFL give byes during the first round?

i like our chances... glad we didn't draw the Angels

The Yankees swept this season's series against the Indians: 6-0.

They outscored Cleveland 49-17, averaging 8.16 runs in the six games.

Batting average: .348

HRs: 14

The only regular who didn't hit .300 against Cleveland was Melky Cabrera, who batted .280.

The Yankee pitching staff had a 2.67 ERA.

Of course, everything is different in the post-season, so I'm throwing down a powerful anti-jinx.

I hate to bring this up...but the Yankees didn't face Cleveland's top two pitchers this season. They are both pretty good, have you heard of them?

Sabathia (19-7, 3.21 ERA) and Carmona (19-8, 3.06)? They're both Cy Young contenders.

Have fun with them in a best of 5 series.

Don't forget your fork.

...uhmmm...the yanks didn't catch the Sox, so the statement was correct.

I also said the Sox would finish with the best record. They did.

I also also said 'watch out for Cleveland'. Good luck, you'll need it.

Joe's gonna be a joker if they keep playing like this. 12-3 in the 8th ... go tribe!

(I actually have some cousins out that way, not just Yankee bashing here!)

You know I never liked chanting that stupid phrase that sox fans chant, cause it just wasn't true.

But wait, could it be? Yes I can, it's true.

Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck,

Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck
