6-day Forecast Discussion (Resort base; 7,800', Resort top; 9,800') -- (SNOW REPORT, CLICK HERE)

Updated for Friday, April 20, 2007
--Discussion...Temperatures below are forecast for the peaks and the base, with highs and lows for both. Yesterday's Low/ High_Caples Lake (7,800' and just up the road from Kirkwood); M/ M, Similar to the Top; M/ M.

OVERALL SITUATION TODAY - The closed low pressure system drops south along the California coast and into southern California late, with light additional snow in the area. Again, we miss the main punch the system would have had if it were to move through.

--THROUGH 6 DAYS - Saturday and Sunday - Unsettled with Saturday between storms, then low pressure moves in and through Saturday afternoon through Sunday with some snow accumulation. This system is not expected to miss us by dropping south, but we will watch.

Monday through Wednesday - The last low pressure system moves away, with high pressure nosing in for all of next week. Temperatures warm up under sunny skies.

should be great. heavenly has gotten a foot and a half this week. most mountains should be in good shape.
the steeper stuff may be closed as snow was scarce most of the year, so i might suggest calling ahead to see who has how much open; but the only time i found some rocks was on blacks; it was not even slushy except near the bottom.
for mid april, they were great.

I live up at Donner summit. Observations for today:

Cold but sunny in the morning. By lunchtime, the snow on the trees was melting. The snow on my railings has melted.

In the late afternoon, there was a small snow shower. Not too long after that, it started snowing gently but steadily. At the moment, it's drizzling, with a couple of snow flakes thrown in as a tease.

I haven't looked at a radar animation because my internet's uber-slow. Anyone know if this is a cold or a warm storm, or where it's coming from? Looked like it was on a northwest wind from where I am, but the wind does funny things up here.

Predictions... If it keeps precipitating when the temperature drops tonight, dust on crust. If it stops, "fast-running" groomers and ice off-piste, maybe never warming up enough to soften.

Too bad, because Sugarbowl's been closed all week and the accumulation looked like enough to be lots of fun in the sheltered areas. Not telling where those are unless you buy me lunch.

it's suppose to be a cold one, reason i'm considering. friends up earlier this week said, very cold, lots of fog but not slush and fast. expect like conditions this weekend and added snow showers. Sunday is closing day at Heavenly...

Here's what today's Heavenly site said:

Break out your powder boards, and winter weather gear! We have received 16 inches of snow in the past week! It should be a great day to ski or ride, just make sure you’ve got adequate clothing and goggles with yellow or amber lenses. Groomers’ picks are Canyon and Orion, powder picks are Dipper Woods and Milky Way Bowl. Unseasonable cold weather will persist with temperatures in the 30s at higher elevations, light to moderate winds, and scattered snow showers. Lifts open at 9:00a.m.
