A proposed Phase II of the project would include a bottling plant for the water, a concert venue for 30,000, riding stables, a yoga and meditation retreat, 72 holes of championship miniature golf and a faux Bavarian village.
Nothing says Gaperville more than faux Bavarian.

It actually started in the local paper, the Valley Reporter, on March 29th, on the front page. It did say April Fools at the end which I think was a good idea.
A couple of us posted it on several forums/boards and created abit of a stir. I thought about posting it here but I knew you Bears were way to informed and sophisticated to fall for it....

Excuse me but here in the Mad River Valley the bavarian influences on many structures here is far from being fake. I agree with your comment in general but since this thread pertains to the MRV that is definately not the case.

The ski areas here including Sugarbush and MRG were started/supported/influenced by all the Austrians who settled here after the war. Guys with names like Sig and Stein. Alot of the homes and lodges as well. They are still here. A chunk of the Von Trapp family settled here as well.

I do agree that genuine fake bavarian is gross...

Not to be a picker of nits, but Bavaria is in Germany. Tirol is in Austria (that's where Innsbruck, St. Anton, Ischgl, Kitzbuehel, etc are).

That is true in modern times but Bavaria and Tyrol have shared the same country and culture. When Napoleon defeated the Roman Empire, Bavaria became a kingdom in 1806, Tyrol and Salzburg were reunited with Bavaria to form the new kingdom. Eventually Tyrol broke away from Bavaria and returned to Austria.

If you want true faux Bavarian check out this place: http://www.leavenworth.org/ Close to Stevens Pass, WA they have a festival about every weekend. It is an old logging town that decided to turn the whole town into a tourist trap. It has to be seen to be believed.

maybe so but I think I'd enjoy it! Ale fest, mountains, blossoming trees ... all they need now are BMWs and Porsches and I'm there

Between Manchester and Peterbourough, NH on rt101 there is a shopping center built to be fake bavarian/tyrolean village called Salzburg Shops(?). Really fake looking. I wonder, is there anyplace in Europe that is faux American?

I've been there. I'd rather spend time in Leavenworth Prison in Kansas then go to Leavenworth, WA ever again.

Suburbs and shopping centers. All over the place.

Leavenworth, WA is absurd, but you can't argue with the surroundings. And the beer is good.

Being of Norwegian heritage my favorite tourist trap in Washington is Poulsbo -- http://www.gonorthwest.com/Washingto...bo/Poulsbo.htm. Its amazing how much faux Scandinavian resembles faux Bavarian.
