05/06 Fischer SL vs 06/07 Fischer SL

The obvious changes:

- Length offered had changed from 05/06 to 06/07
- Some graphic changes

What else has changed?

My Feeling is that the Fischer SL and GS did not change much from 02/03 to 05/06 and then some slight changes were made in 06/07 models. So, for anybody that made the move from these later model Fischer SL skis to the 06/07, I have this questions for you:

Does the 05/06 Fischer SL feel much different than the 06/07 model?

Also, what is the difference between a Fischer FR17 FreeFlex and the Fischer Z17 FreeFlex binding? I'm wondering if I can place the FR17 FreeFlex on the 06/07 Fischer SL.

Thanks!

FWIW, the rep i spoke with told me there were only really cosmetic changes and a few small tweaks between the 05/06 and the 06/07 WC sl

I have the 05/06 GS and SL and have also owned the 03/04 and 04/05 GS. I found that the most noticeable change was from 03/04 to 04/05 and then the 05/06 was a further evolution. IMHO there has been a HUGE change from the 02/03 to the 05/06 with the 05/06 being the best so far (i haven't skied on the 07).

wrt the bindings I think (always dangerous!) the z17 freeflex is just the 07 version of the FR17 freeflex. The only difference seems to be the graphics, the z17 matches the 07 ski graphics. The FR17 will certainly fit the 07 sl as the plate is the same as previous years

Can you be more descriptive with regard to the changes you've noticed?

In terms of the bindings fitting, it's not really an issue because the Fischer plates are not binding-specific.

Thanks ScotsSkier.

What size are you on in the 05/06 SL?

the 161 (marked as 166 with the plastic tips)

I heard the same thing. No changes other than cosmetic between the 05/06 and 06/07 Fischer WC SL. They produced a fantastic ski in 05/06 (I have a pair) and didn't see any need for change this year.

From 06 to 07, the SL went from 2 mens sizes down to one of 165. If there were only cosmetic changes, which size is the 07 version the same as?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ski with the plastic tip is no longer available. The 2007 ski is the 166 from 2006, marked 165.

For the GS, the 173 is now a 175 and the 178 is now a 180. Have the skis actually changed or are they just marked differently?

No, same molds. Just changes to make them legal (old rules). At least that was the case about the 178/180. I never bothered asking about the 175 or SL skis.

That is my understanding as well D(C). Didn't the FIS rule chnages effectively outlaw the "cheater" 166. ? However from my POV the 161 is just that little bit more useable for my old body.

FIS rules enforced next year at all Masters SL races?

I may race a Masters SL or two next year. I will certainly be training SL with a Masters club. I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of brand new 05/06 Fischer SL with the plastic tip feflectors in 166. So, they won't be FIS legal. But, will they enforce this rule at non FIS Masters races next year?

No problems in USSA Masters. There are no restrictions unless you are running in FIS Masters events. You can run what you brung!

I would suggest you go for it

Done.

If anybody else is interested, I can point you to where I got them. They are on sale for $400 and there is one more 166 left.

I also picked up a new pair of Fischer FR17 FreeFlex bindings for $127, with free shipping. There are two pair of those left.

To put the whole SureFoot boot thread into perspective, I got the above skis and bindings along with a pair of 06/07 Tecnica Diablo Race Pro 110 boots with a custom insole for less than that guy pair for one pair of boots.

Thanks everybody for the great feedback!
