LGCIV Format Suggestion: Survivor

Hey, I had a brainstorm. Why don't we combine one of El Coacho's favorite shows with an LGCIV day next year, ie. the Survivor format? I say this knowing full well that with my sense of humor/bad jokes if we start at 9:15 am that I will be voted off the island (mountain?) by 9:23. What do you think, could this add a little spice to things?

Ok so that suggestion fell flat...

So I have another one. Why don't we invite Paris and Nicole to next year's event and call it LGCIV, "The Simple Life". I'll bet they'll be a riot in the bumps...

Nope, meds are working fine. It's just my bizarre sense of humor. Hopefully somewhere in this thread I made a few useful comments as well.

Actully Paris might well be a skier. She is a spoiled, international rich kid so she may have spent time on the slopes growing up. However, I am not interested enough to search the web for evidence... LewBob

Maybe we should add a Snowmass day next year just in case. I'll check with Vi-kub, Paris used to go to her school so maybe she can get some more information.

Er, please don't!

if Paris skis, she probably does so 1. drunk and 2. with that annoying little rat thing she calls a dog strapped to her back in some fur lined sack. Oh and I bet she has those Chanel leather topped skis, to boot!

of course she could be old school...

though something leads me to believe she's more of an "apres all the time" skier.

Close Dookster. According to Vi-kub she was asked to leave her school because she was doing "powder runs" in the stairwell (this was in New York City).

Was that the kind of powder you snort? LewBob

it could have been imported champagne powder for which she probably used a snorkle...

Are there definite dates for IV, yet? If so, let's get 'em posted so we can work in concert with the planning for Big Sky. If not, let's see if we can integrate with the ESA Big Sky plans...

LGC has always been held through the first two weeks of April. Easter arrives very early next year (3/23) and rates drop around the first week of April. They drop even more the second week of April and if Vail holds its usual "Spring Back to Vail" event tickets will be down to about $20 a day. Of course they could surprise us again like they did this season and decide to stay open another week.

If Big Sky were to be held (I'm assuming it still to be a 4 day event) Sun-3/30 - 4/3 this would have the least impact on LGC IV. While most of Epic may not see a connection, the two events overlapping does steal 4 of my guides (possibly Cgeib/ssh/bong/giddyup) who usually attend ESA. That would almost kill LGC IV. The final decision on dates here though, does belong to giddyup.

On a second note.....there was mention of Phil's bumpfest heading west for a visit. No mention of dates there but adding Phil and the gang to the LG timeframe would be a kick in the pants wouldn't it !

Then, some of you may remember I proclaimed next season to be "the year of the gathering" for me and the Mrs. So, who's throwing LGM I ?

Let's Go Tahoe has a nice rhyming ring to it, too!

12 Resorts in 12 Days (13 if you want to toss in Tahoe/Donner; 14 for Granilbakken)

Soda Springs
Sugar Bowl
Donner Ski Ranch
Squaw
Alpine Meadows
Homewood
Northstar
Diamond Peak
Mt. Rose
Heavenly
Kirkwood
Sierra

The preferred dates for LGC IV as of now are 29 Mar - 12 Apr. If Breck, Copper, Vail etc... post season end dates of 20 Apr we could modify this but on average conditions are likely to be better on the earlier dates.

For those likely to attend next season please PM me with what type of pass or passes your likely to purchase if any? This to some degree will influence the choice of areas we will be skiing endless fresh powder at

As for ESA Big Sky, I'm not sure what kind of commitment we could get from non locals if ESA were held 31 Mar - 3 Apr. It would take a minimum of a 2 week commitment for people to participate in both even if we moved the dates. I really wouldn't want to pit one against the other if it could be avoided?

ESA and the LGC gathering are very different in program and format ... obviously. Apart from UL's concern over guides, I see no reason why these two events can't be concurrent as one event is a "learning camp" and the other is freeskiing with a modicum of organization. That late in the season, I am just looking to have a laid back few days of cruising around with some friends. I'll pick LGC over ESA.

jgiddyup and I touched base by phone this weekend. He is right on top of the scheduling and lift ticket options as well as all the other stuff that usually happens behind the scenes.

After careful consideration and conversations with Jgiddyup and other attendees of LGC, it has been decided that the Let's Go Colorado event should end.

A year ago I started this thread and explained that this event was suffering growing pains. We have always had a shortage of guides, and this year was the worst ever for participation by qualified guides.

We had an even greater range of abilities at this year's event. Because we were always short on guides, we had large groups with varying speed and ability levels. The safety margin went WAY down. We had near misses, clipped skis, and earlier in the season a collision between two folks skiing together who normally attend LGC. One skier smacked a tree on opening day and apparently cracked a few ribs. I have ALWAYS STRESSED SAFETY at this thing, and the group dynamics compromised safety, and that is unacceptable.

If you attended any LGC event, I hope you had a good time and great memories as I do. It is time for this event to end.

I have one request. If someone wants to organize something like this here in SummitCounty again, be my guest. I may even get out to ski a few days with you......BUT.....PLEASE,

Change the name of the event......and good luck to you.

It's been a great run . Thanks to all of you
