Lake Tahoe - Up to 27" of Utah/Colorado type powder comes to Tahoe

Thread Starter
Lake Tahoe areas received up to 27" of Utah/Colorado type powder (6-7% water content http://webpages.charter.net/tcrocker818/skng1102.htm) in this latest storm.

Did anyone get to ski/snowboard this and how were the conditions? Please also post photos if possible.

...Cold temperatures created low density (around 6-7% H2O) new snow that has been deposited on top of high density crust surfaces in most areas.

I left the area right when the storm came in on Monday. You could see the accumulation on most of the Tahoe area webcams, however, to me it looked a lot like Sierra cement not Utah type powder.

I caught it Tuesday. Not Utah type powder. Got heavy within a couple of hours, but sweet : In the good old days we used to get these storms weekly through April and even into May. Hey ! We're not even in April yet

Cant help but brag as well Skied Kwood Tuesday. Definitely light pow although from what I heard Kwood received less snow than other resorts. Just a few miles south put them out of the ideal weather pattern... None the less - 12" to 18" of fresh was welcomed!!

looks to be pretty decent conditions considering the overall season tahoe has had.

Hope it's still here when you do. Looks like many or most resorts are planning to close on the 15th.

yeah, heavenly closes that weekend but squaw will still be turning into may even in an off year like this.

High-T was open today

High Traverse was open at Alpine today. First time since the storm. My guess is that Sherwood is now closed for the season (they closed down High-T at 11:00). There were many funnels due to lack of coverage and it wasn't really corn so my guess is that they opened it as a last chance given that there was snow but it wasn't setting up. Oh well, I got in 3 last loops

Oh, man -- I can't believe I missed it. Hopefully, my wife and kids get to hit it today or tomorrow.

I skied heav 3/28; very light crowd, alot of uncut powder in trees all things considered. Much colder up top (24) vs. base (39).

Must have snowed some (3-6) overnight on 3/27. Good conditions that day.

High-T still opening at least 'til 10:30 I didn't bother hitting it today but stay high and go right and go right some more, and more ...
