Utah Christmas 07 - Rental Agencies and General Recommendations

Grandma says she wants to get (pay for) a house in ski country for this coming Christmas for the kids and grandkids. I figured we'd go to Utah, because of easy access to the ski areas from the airport and well the snow. Here's our basic requirements: House must sleep 12-15 people (7 adults and 8 kids), have a hot tub, Some nonskiing activities for kids/grandparents closeby, and be a short drive to the slopes. I will assume a ski in/out house would be too expensive.

Questions:

1. Any Rental Agency recommendations. (I've be checking on VRBO).
2. Which ski area offers the most rental housing.
3. How about staying in Salt Lake for Christmas week and driving to the resorts each day?
4. Any specific house recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You sound like a candidate for either the Park City area (Park City, Deer Valley or The Canyons) or, as you suggest, Salt Lake City. If you stay in Park City, I understand Resorts West does a good job and they offer extra services like shuttles as part of the rate.

We have used VRBO the past few times and have had good luck. There are plenty of condos/houses fitting your needs on VRBO within Park City and Deer Valley. The good thing is that you deal with the owner directly and you don't have to pay the extra management fees, thus more bang for your buck..although at Xmas who knows.

I wouldn't know personally about Xmas time, but I imagine it gets pretty busy and you may not want to deal with the drive each day from SLC. I'm sure the locals on the forum could give you more info about traffic.

In any case there are plenty of places in PC and DV to rent. I would go to the PCMR and DV Resort ski website and look under lodging or do a general search, to find locations of condominiums and neighborhoods. That may help you search on VRBO.

We just rented for the upcoming New Years and found that larger parties are a bit difficult to book. Especially during the holiday! The least expensive rentals are in the Bear Hollow area outside the Canyons (that is what we found at least). We booked a house off of Saddle View which I found on the Chamber of Commerce web site. Check out their link of lodging as well...there are a few that are by owner that I hadn't seen anywhere else. IMO, stick with renting from the owner directly, as many of the agencies really jack up the prices for the holiday! Not to mention many havent even got their fees in line for next season yet and many we found by owner (that were large enough for our group were booked).

Good luck!!!

Has everything form hotel rooms, to multi bedrooms homes, ski in / ski out/ to Main street locations. Tickets to all resorts in the PC area, offers many admenties. The also manage homes for out of town owners.

Thanks for everyone's replies. Not real big fan of PC. I'm more of an SB/Alta fan. But I'm not paying the ticket.

Redhead0209,

Are most of the rentals Sat. to Sat. or were you able to book a partial week during the holidays?

It sort of ran the gambit....we had some that were Sat to Sat, others wanted to include Christmas and New Years. Most were either a 6 or 7 night minimum. I guess it depends on who you rent from. At least with the PC area - there will be plenty to do. Good Luck

Some alternate food for thought, here are a couple homes I quickly plucked off VRBO in Georgetown, CO that appear to fit your sleeping rqmts, going for about $450 per night. 15 miles to Loveland ski area, which is often uncrowded even during Christmas Holidays. About 30 miles from several of the large Summit County resorts and/or Winter Park, 50 miles in other direction to Denver for nonskiing tourists.
