Just curious, wanted to look up what the legal radius of an FIS slalom ski is. Looked here http://www.fis-ski.com/data/document/ausre0607.pdf and didn't see it. All the other event skis are there. Anyone know what it is?
It isn't there because there is no such thing as a limit for slalom ski radius. The limits are in the slalom category are only in the form of length. The men's length are 165, and the women's length is 155 (both are minimums). Usually the skis are no less than 12m, and no greater than 14m.

I noticed Fischer listed "13m" for the radius on the RC4 SC and "FIS legal" for radius on the RC4 SL. That's why I asked.

Fischer just doesn't want to tell you what the radius on that ski is.
so what is the radius of a fischer world cup SL 165cm? anybody know?
and while i'm at it......anybody know the radius of the WC SC (06/07 model) in 155 and 160cm? i assume it's 11m/12m respectively?

thx, cheers

165cm + / - 1cm unwound length in length and must be marked on the ski. Waist can be no narrower then 60mm with no tolerance.

yeah, normally 12-14.5M and 165 or 166cm!
All the slalom skis turn slalom. The radius is only one small component that contributes to the overall feel of the ski, but I would argue that factors such as flex and the placement on the sidecut along the ski play a greater role than the small variances in radius when differentiating slalom skis.
ok........for sure there are other factors to consider in a ski apart from radius, but i would still like to know what the numbers are. you would think you could at least get such numbers from the various ski company websites, but no.
For the Fischer WC SL the turn radius = "just plain scary fast edge to edge"

Most have the dimensions printed on the ski along with the radius. all of our Atomic slaloms race stock and otherwise, my Stockli WC Lasers and My Head i.sl RD all have the dimensions and radius printed on the ski and are normally quoted on the websites or in a downloadable Tech manual.

Agreed, tip width, taper angle and flex are all very crucial components.

My Fischer Sl's don't any sidecut or turn radius info on them but my Fischer SC's have it all.

The sidecut on the 2006 model RC4 SL WC is 115-64-100, with a radius of 13 m. (http://www.ski-depot.com/fischer_ski_spec_2006.htm). I believe the ski hasn't changed for 2007.

How old are the SL's?

I have the 2006 Fischer WC SL in 166 and the only dimension shown on the ski is r>13. I know my head sl RDs show the dimensions and the radius which IIRC is something like 11.6

I screwed up. My 05/06 Fischer WC SL's have R>13m written on them and they are 166cm. They are actually 161cm with Fischer factory installed plastic tips bolted on to make them long enough to be FIS legal.

Fischer tends to be very circumspect in their advertising materials about the dimensions of their FIS SL and GS skis. Usually you will see something like "TBD" or ">21m" on their GS skis or just "FIS legal." If you call Fischer USA, they will likely give you the actual sidecut dimensions though as D(C) said above:

I believe the FIS changed the rules so that now SL tip extensions can no longer be included in calculating the length of a SL ski.
Duuhhh, I got's a questiun - do these salmon skis werk good in deep snow?
People who can handle these salmons can make them rip in any snow!
They work great in deep snow, the wide shovel and tail help float and the short length allows you to falling leaf or sideslip down anything remotely steep, a great asset if you inadvertently wander off the groomers and get trapped on something the groomers 'forgot' to groom.
Duuhh, good to know. I hates it when them gruumers is slacking off all the tyme. Did I mention that sometimes I whittles the future?
Jer, being from Utah and all, I am sure that you are good enough to handle any ski under any conditions at any time. With your acute skills and ability even you would have a hard time sorting things out regarding SL's in pow or DH's in the trees and stuff like that.

Rumor even has it that Mayor of SLC is gonna' name a run after you! The bad news is that's it a bus route.

Mods - feel free to move all the moron posts in all the fat ski threads to random humor also. They're contributing about as much to those threads as I am here. While you're at it, feel free to move the pole strap and chairlift post to Random Humor as well. Ah, hell - move the entire forum to Random Humor. Apologies to those with brains, but I figure if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Piss "Rocky" off and it'll be a subway stop for you!

My 156 Stockli SL's have a radius of 12, that was a legal FIS mens ski in 03.
Jer, you need to use the little face-thingys...::, it allows everyone to know what you mean. Reading is hard, pictures help. Like in comic books.

I'm not being sarcastic. I've truely come to the realisation that there are a lot of brain dead dopes here. Like I sayz - sometimes I whittles the future. And I just got done whittling me getting banned in a couple days for being an unrepentant meanie.
