The Tahoe Gathering - Page 2

I didn't read all of this thread, but dookey just commented on this weekend, as in "seeing what this weekend brings... i might have to get a camera."

Dude... it's the world freeskiing championships!!! you better bring a fricking camera. That event goes off!!!

Friday at Kirkwood

A big thanks to all who showed up to the Tahoe Gathering. I was there on Friday and had a blast skiing with you all. I'm a newbie to the epicski board but I've been around long enough to get some of the flavor from the members, starting off with my first post on epic being deleted by Phil. My bad for not reading the want ad rules.

So it was refreshing to meet some bears in person. Cyberspace is a bit chilly to begin with, and putting faces and personalities together with handles made for a fun day on the snow. I look forward to posting on epic and getting together with some of the bears when we can.

Cheers

as Mrs. X-EastCoaster so brilliantly put it on Saturday @ Squaw: "It's a lot like internet dating, isn't it?"

You never quite know who is gonna look like what and who is gonna ride like how. Or something like that.

It was enlightening to finally see the true color of Dookey's yellow ski suit. What shade of yellow was that Dookey? It was a fine move on Cirque's part to bring up the bbq and drinks. Bears, beer, and the barbie

better late than never

finally managed to get out to AM sunday and, after discovering WTFH's familiar face on the deck, luck into a couple last laps with MTT and Cirquerider off the summit six; that was fun.

alpine meadows is fun.

Well, I'm finally home & online again.
The gathering was great. I didn't take many photos, but anyway:
Here's some enjoying lunch at Squaw...

...and the BBQ that Cirque & MKevenson had on my balcony...

you might be familiar with this air samurai. and as you could probably guess....I got crushed

(was the last guy to make it into the finals, didn't hit my planned line up top, and well, basically, had nothing to lose so i had to give the crowd something to get fired up about )

I take it that those skis were mounted with the Z12 bindings you blew up and need to get replaced. What on earth led you to be skiing that kind of terrain on plastic 12 DIN bindings? Anyway, nice to see you into the Finals. What is the goal for next year?

nah...the bindings on the skis in that pic are race stock 916's.
The Z12's fatally exploded while skiing Sentinel bowl on a different pair of skis as a warm run in the morning...literally just making sweeping high-speed GS turns the plastic heel housing cracked and kicked my boots out. Maybe I damaged them earlier in the week and they just couldn't withstand the forces anymore....i'm really not sure. All I know is I had one mad dash down to my car on trashed bindings that would barely keep me in, swap out skis, and climb up to the top of the Cirque in time for my run. added just a liiiiitle bit of stress to my morning....

Next year the goal is top 10.

Good "sharing" a brew with you Tyrone!

BTW, that pic you posted, is that on the DPs or the Bros that you blew the bindings out on?

good meeting you finally as well dookey.

That pic above I am on the DP Lotus 138's.

I competed in Wednesday's qualifiers and on Friday's Day 1 of the World Tour event on the 192 Bro's with the Z12's. The Z12's broke about an hour before my Finals run on Saturday and I had to hustle to swap skis.

nice bunny-hop ty. I do recognize that air... and I too have blown up on it. Although I have also stuck it, but I blame that on the 9 feet of snow, not my skills with flat landings.

i just got back from bumrushing LGC3 and have been entrusted with the duty of cajolling other West Coast Epic heads to make the trek next year.

i gotta say, the Colo crew rocks. i spent 3 of my 5 days (took a solo day, and spent Easter riding with a hottie) riding with some great folks, some cool instructors (Ingmar from Breck, Katie and Bong from Copper), and had a blast getting my hiney waxed on the bumps. Yeah, i sucked a lot of vapor trails, but i'm a better skier for it.

i highly encourage anybody with the gumption to make an effort to slip out to at least part of LGC4 next year. you possibly couldn't have a crappy time. i guarantee it!

: RUMORS, OH THOSE DAMN RUMORS! In fact I didn't remember, until you just mentioned it. That's what I get for trying to keep up with the pros. I should just admit it, I am a light weight. But thanks to a couple of great friends for keeping the wolf away! Next time, OH YA, next time, I'll leave the good stuff to the experts. A bit embarresed but grateful.
