Blossom Skis

Blossom in Italy has been making some world class skis for (among others) Nordica, Vist and now Hart. Why has no one heard of them and why aren't they selling their own skis here in the US?

Seriously Phil... how do you find this stuff?

Dudes, just bought a pair of last year's Blossom twin tips. They are the ugliest skis I've ever seen, uglier even than these: http://www.blossomski.com/index.php?...oduzione&cat=9. I'll take a photo when I'm up on the mountain this weekend. But at 150 euros, I couldn't resist (sorry Phil, so cheap that I mounted those MRR's I promised you on them!). This is my second pair of Blossoms; had a used pair of their slalom boards a few years back and they rocked. And Phil, you'll be interested to know that the Blossom shop in Chiavenna, just down the mountain from where I ski, also carries Vist bindings and plates as well as Garmont boots... and not just the AT models we're used to seeing, but also a new alpine model! Sans metal bars, unfortunately. Blossom is one of the most popular brands in all of the Val Chiavenna. Which is saying very little.

I've heard of them, but then I've spent hours upon hours listening to you, Phil.

Am I seeing this correctly, they have race skis that have topsheets made to look like really really vintage wooden skis? If so, thats pretty damn cool.

The race skis "Linea Gara" are all monochrome. If you mean the SPG, SPM, and SPT wood grain in the "race carving" line, that's been done by Authier, Spezialski/Snowrider http://www.spezialski.de/ http://www.snowrider.at/Content-pid-2.html , Lacroix-Lagriffe, and a bunch of other makers on Exoticskis' list, it's almost expected of a boutique maker to have at least one in the line.

Take a look at the Edelwiser top sheet gallery:

I actually like the blue/red topsheet design on those Blossom Freerides.

And some of those Eidlewieser topsheets are really cool, as well.

Too bad i don't read German...but isn't that a custom factory where you send them your specs and choose a topsheet?

I personally like these:

Hot Pink

and
The 2 Mary's (Virgina and Magdaline)

Sort of -they have stock geometries. I like the evil woodpecker on the Firnis twintips.
it looks like they only come in 162 or 172 lengths....bummer. I'd want at the minimum a 180-185...

i like how they have "creamy flex" and "chili grip".

they have an interactive custom ski designer program, but it's in German only.

As promised:

And it gets worse. The skis are called--and it pains me to say this--"Deer and Sunset." So the above is the "Deer" section. Check out the below:

I kind of like the sunset, but they could have spared the deer!
BTW I do like the Blossom Canalone but, at 195 cm (only size) I think they're too much for me.
Well, they'd be a step down from your 198 Volkls, though not much of a step...
Bwhahahahaha!
AFAIK they also make the blackcrows skis (designed in Chamonix). Which get a very positive buzz on french ski forums and ski mags. (For instance the navis is ski of the year for Ski Mag in the FS BC category)

The Corvus looks sick.

philippe, this is true, we sold out(15pairs) in one week.

What do you think of it ? I like what I see, but demos are scarce.

This ski is basically the Hart Fuelie Boss, one big beef stick.

Really? Nice to see that they're getting work making skis. We'd hate to see the factory close (again). Their own skis are really not bad. Simple, and usually about 20% or so cheaper than other brands. If you're ever driving to Madesimo or St Moritz (from Italy, that is), there is a Blossom store in Chiavenna. They stay open til like 10:30 pm on Fridays and Sundays to soak up the "passing skier" traffic. Some decent deals there (they've also got Garmont boots, AT and alpine). Not shilling for them or anything.

Yeah, reading your thread (http://forums.epicski.com/showthread.php?t=65312) about Hart skis 2009 line and seeing the Boss (its dimension and general appearance, not the graphics of course) comparing the two :
Boss 121/91/111 lenght 195
Canalone 121/91/111 lenght 195

Got me wondering. Had you not posted the above, I would have asked.
Blossom Canalone are around since at least 3-4 years, but I have yet to see one pair being skied here (I saw a pair in a shop, though, and I couldn't help but drool).
So I expect to see the Hart line at the Blossom store in Chiavenna...
BTW
I have an old catalog (prolly from 2004-2005 or 2005-2006) where the Canalone reported stats are
Costruzione :Sandwich
Dimensioni :189
Sciancratura :120 - 92 - 110

189? That's the lenght the pre-prod Boss yetidave has (post #17, thread above)
Other folks have found the same good deals at the Blossom store in Chiavenna, Italy and found some "rare" skis hanging around the racks ready for sale to unsuspecting buyers looking for something "different"....(see http://www.exoticskis.com/forum/defa...x?g=posts&t=27) I want to go and see what else is lurking in the shop....Sounds like a good place to lighten your wallet and walk out with new toys...

The Blossom facility appears to have a pretty thick list of clients...they must be doing something right! (Where's the old Squadra Course race skis when you need them?)...
Yeah, I picked up those Deer and Sunsets, 2007 boards, for 150 euros. I'm convinced the ugly graphics kept them on the shelf (well, that and the poor snow year last season). I've used them the last couple weekends and they're fun. Something like 110-86-120 at 176 with a twin tip.

heh.....not only do the Boss and Canalone seem familiar, but they're also identical to the 195 PMGear SuperBro (http://pmgear.com/product_info.php?c...products_id=86) and the 195 AK Skis SuperSalmon.

Seems to be same dimensions, all only available in 195, same ISO textured topsheet, two sheets of titanal, etc. etc. This design sure gets around!
Hey man, Chiavenna is rockin'! Assuming they're produced there...

I love them, but just had Camille (the owner/designer/skier) in the shop. Assures me Blossom do not make his skis.

Could they all be produced in the same "foundry" ?

Eh, I stand corrected then. Wrong info.

Where are they made ? They're supposed to be handmade in Italy, in a "small factory that build race skis" (according to an interview).

I have been following casually, from time to time, the review / test / suitability threads on Hart and Vist skis to which Philpug, among others, has been contributing knowledgeably. I have a question that didn't seem appropriate to any of those threads. The question is: Is there a practical and (more or less) affordable channel for obtaining any of the Blossom skis as seen on their website here in the US? I understand that these may be the same as Hart and Vist models with different graphics. Meaning no offense at all to the designers of the Hart and Vist topsheets, I just happen to find myself particularly smitten with the understated but beautiful Blossom designs, such as the Windshear. I've put up a standing search on eBay briefly, a couple of times, but I don't think I ever got a hit.

I've seen some Blossom skis in Tokyo, rather expensive here.

FWIW high-end SL/GS skis from Volkl/Head/Blizzard/Atomic/Rossignol/etc running 120,00 yen ($1,400) and up for 2011 season, and if I remember right the Blossoms were in that price range. With the dollar & euro heading south against the yen, I won't be buying locally!
