Tecnica Icon Boot Series

Shop guys or Tecnica reps possibly- Anyone out there knowledgable on the Tecnica Icon TNT boot series? I have a question on the difference between a pair of Icon TNT XR boots and Icon TNT XRS boots. I assume the XRS is either a stiffer or something slightly different.

The REALLY important bit of info you need is...TNT's Explode, the problem is mostly with the orange pairs, but I'd skip this generation of Technica.

Pretty sure XRS is a SOFTER flexing XR.

This is a harsh statement about a boot. What details can you furnish, and has anyone else had the same experiences?

There's another thread that addresses this.

Short answer is that apparently there were some TNT versions that had problems, but it sounds like the Icons should be fine.

I don't know the Icons, but my experience has been that the TNTs were fantastic boots. Stiff and solid, and they fit me better than anything else I've tried - which is, of course, the key to a great boot.

I had a pair of the early ('88? '89?) TNTs [the orange shells with black and green trim]. Replaced those with Explosion 8's in '96. The 8's did fall apart on me this season, but that was after ten good years - which doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Now I'm on Diablo Magmas, slightly softer-flexing than the 8's but a very similar feel.

Yes, I have Technica feet!

And here's what's left of my Explosion 8's...

These are not the orange color but the charcoal or black versions like in this link: http://www.untracked.com/p149-02_tec...ski_boots.html I suspected too that the S was either stiff or soft one way or the other- would really like to look at an old Tecnica boot brochure from about 2002 or 2003 maybe based on the google searches I have done.

Technica issued a recall. 'Nuff said.

Those Technica's in the picture are TNT's but NOT TNT Icon's, I have Icon X and love 'em. Those in the picture are a generation older. As far as the original q, not sure, the year of mine there was only 3 Icon's X (softest) XT (stiffer) and XT Race (stiffest, w/ riveted-on carbon look cuff instead of plain black cuff). (On second thought, I think I do remember the XR (black version) being softer than all the orange versions (X,XT,Race)
