Atomic Equivalent of Monster 72 ?

I got to demo the Head Monster 72 recently and was quite impressed, as many are in these forums.

I am an ardent Atomic fan and was wondering which Atomic Ski would be the closest match to the head specs / ski experience (SX10??).

I am looking for a quicker turning ski than my Beta Race 9.20 and something good or decent in mogals, and powder, and generally less speed driven than my race sticks (which are sweet rides when when you want to go fast to medium fast). I had no chance to demo Atomic Skis this season.

Thanks

Atomic Nomads

Torxx,

There are four different Nomad molds you might want to look into. Where do you ski?

72,76,79, and 86mm respectivly. The Crimson is out of the 86 mold. Some shops already have them in demo. Look around at your local dealers.

Sativa 72
Bluemoon 72
Cool Grey 76
Highnoon 76
Whiteout 79
Blackeye 79
Crimson 86

The ski construction changes between the two skis with the same waist(stiffer more damp)

Sounds like its time to become an ardent Head fan. Just think, you'll never have to deal with concave bases, mystical 3* side edge angles, or shady distribution practices again!

Also consider the Dynastar Contact 9, 122-72-102mm with better performance than the Head.

My bad, I read Monster 82...sorry.

... So, you're saying that you really want to find an Atomic ski that skis just like a Head ski, since you love atomics.

Maybe, and I'm just throwin' this out there, you could try purchasing the actual ski that you like.

Yes, forget brand loyalty -- it will ultimately limit you. Atomic makes some nice skis, but they are not the best in every category. Some of the Head Monsters are very well regarded. If you got to demo the iM72 and you liked them a lot, then I would be shopping for the iM72!

I always get bummed out when someone is looking for genuine information and the responses turn negative. Maybe poeple want to bring other poeple down with them. What don't these people go outside and use the bad energy and keep the forums positive and productive.

Sad!

It was genuine information- not only can he get the ski he really likes, he can leave all of Atomic's numerous downsides behind him. Just because it wasn't wrapped in the feel-good heel-pushing mentality of this board doesn't mean its not good advice.

The Atomic ski that most closely mirrors the shape of the Monster 72 is the Izor 9.7. This is a superb ski with performce equal to or better than the M-72.

Thankx much for the input.

I live in Virginia and try to ski out west for a week each year or two. With a new baby, the west trips me be on hold for a few years???

Ski shops are scarce at home. The mountain I Ski most in VA (Wintergreen) do not carry Atomics. I'm not completely stuck on Atomics, but the ones I have skied were all nice and seem to have a unique silky feel to them (beta race and beta carve is all I have been able to try).

With that said, I am almost ready to pull the trigger and ordered the Head Monster 72 --- at $400 it is not a huge commitment. It is hard to decide now that ski season is over for us easterners. And it can be a hack to demo skis unless they are set up on ther slopes, which is rare....

Maybe I'll just wait til my next west trip where I can try any ski out there???

thanks

Hey Torxx, I am a Wintergreen regular myself. The iM72 will be a great ski for Wintergreen. Hope to see you on the slopes next season!

I agree with SJ on the Izor 9.7. Last year I was down to the Head 72 and the Izor and chose the Izor (actually bought it from SJ!) simply because I was able to demo the Izor locally and could not find the 72 to demo. Never regretted my choice although the 72 is supposed to be just as good a ski!

Either way prices should be in your favor at this time!
