Thinking about a weekend trip up in late September and wondering what's generally open that time of year? Are the camps gone from Palmer? Do they generally have bumps/park available? Any interesting hikable terrain?
yes the camps should be gone, but way too late to reccomend hiking, you are at pretty good elevation above Palmer, and there are some nasty open crevasse areas up there, so unless you know what you're doing, I would say don't hike much above the lift.
T-line only closes for about two weeks now, in October, so you'll be good, as long as you dont mind forty bucks for a flat run from 9-2. Then again, it'll be Sept., soo.....
The terrain accessed by the lower Magic Mile quad might be considered more of a greenish-blue--but the upper Palmer quad chair (where the camps are held) is definitely steep enough to fulfill your late September speed need.
I've been going there every August and September since the early nineties. In fact, I just bought my plane tickets for this summer's trip.
If you go, I can guarantee you that you'll have a blast.
