Mad River Glen Sunday (3/11/07)
Skied Mad River Glen on Sunday - a really long day trip, after a party the night before.
I'm afraid I didn't get any real powder shots. Was skiing by myself at first. Later I skied with some folks I met on Paradise (random friendly strangers), but they were good enough that I didnt have time to get the camera out.
I mostly skied cut up powder or a few inches on the edges, but I did find a few slots through the trees with knee deep. (I didn't have the local knowledge to find the stashes reported in some other threads.) I realized it had been at least 15 years since I've been to MRG - very little has changed.)
It snowed until about 3 pm, hard at times. Some nasty gusts, but mostly not too windy.
So here is what I got:
The single chair:
I made the mistake of following a kid on tele skis (a big fraction of the skiers are on tele, by the way) down this gully off of ferret
This is what it looks like once you get past the downed tree. I'm not quite sure where the trail goes, but this is one of my few photos where you can tell the snow is fluffy.
The waterfall on Paradise from the top.
And from the bottom. Its right at the top of what you can see. The person behind the tree is already past it. I remember the waterfall being a lot higher and having a flat landing 15 years ago. On SUnday it was only about 3 feet with a reasonable landing zone. Maybe the snow or ice filled it in some, or maybe theres been some erosion.
Here's the people I was skiing with on the run out of our last run together - I suddenly remembered I wasn't taking photos.
Bottom line - an epic day, much better than it looks in my pictures.
